Q: Hello,
2 part question regarding the above companies for a 30 year old investor with a 10+ year hold horizon:

1. In a TFSA account I currently own BNS and BUS. Would you swap these 2 out for LSPD, KXS and DND today? If so, would you please rank the 5 companies in order of preference in a TFSA account?

2. I have some cash to deploy in my RRSP account. I was wondering if you could also rank the following companies to buy today once again for a 30 year old with a minimum holding period of 10 years: BAM, BIP.UN, BIPC (in case you think that one is better than the other in an RRSP), BNS, XIU and VEQT. I would be able to purchase 3 of the 6 mentioned so what would be your preferred mix in this case?

Thanks for your help!

Q: In reviewing Sunopta results this morning, they reported strong results yet the stock price has had a negative reaction. May I have your thoughts?

* Revenues of $205.6 million for Q4 2020 compared to $186.1 million in Q4 2019, an increase of 10.4%.
* Gross margin increased 360 basis points to 15.5% from 11.9% in the prior year.
* Earnings were $70.2 million or $0.78 per share in Q4 2020, compared to a loss of $7.6 million or $0.09 per share in Q4 2019. This includes earnings from continuing and discontinued operations.
* Adjusted earnings attributable to common shareholders were $1.2 million or $0.01 per diluted common share in Q4 2020, vs a loss of $5.6 million or $0.06 per diluted common share in Q4 2019. This includes earnings from continuing and discontinued operations.
Adjusted EBITDAš from continuing operations of $20.6 million, or 10.0% of revenues for Q4 2020, versus $11.2 million or 6.0% of revenues in Q4 2019.

Thank you

Q: Hello,
I already own these stocks. I am doing some selling / trimming / buying and would appreciate your comments:
DSG - I did well. Exposure at the high end but ok. How confident are you in the name for the next few years? If sold partially, I would allocated to KXS of TIXT. Your thoughts?
TOY - Do you like it more with momentum as of late? Decent long term hold or good time to sell at these level?
REAL - I am down about 25% but small position. I was thinking of adding at these level (or sell since position not big enough). It would be a long term hold. Your thoughts?
NFI - Hold or sell?
Fortis - Would you add at these level?
Thank you,

Q: I have these tech companies in my TFSA. Can you tell me which companies you like and which you don't and why? Do you think I have too many Tech companies? I show a profit in all but KXS, CGY, NVEI. Thanks 5i.

Q: I hold BYD, DOO, and MG and am considering DOL, ATZ, LNF. I want to stay with a total of 3 consumer cyclicals in my portfolio so would you suggest selling any of the current 3 and purchasing any of the other 3 for safe growth?

Thanks, Lyle

Q: Today CJT is off $73 from the high of $250. It now needs to move almost 50% to reach this all time high. You often comment that this is often a tall order for a stock that is in a penalty box. My average price is $200. Looking at TFII and CJT today which one has a better growth prospect in your view if you had to pick one?

Q: BAM has made recent sales in the market of West Fraser Timber and GrafTech is there a specific reason do they need to raise cash, or are they taking profit.
Best Regards,

Q: Hi 5i,
Loblaws has long been a laggard. Slow, stodgy, nothing exciting. Reputation for not paying its workers well. Has it finally turned the corner with yesterday’s earnings? Conversely, COST has always been in growth mode. Pays its workers well. Yesterday, it announced a $16 U.S. minimum wage. The stock has dropped from $380 to $330 in two months with no apparent news. Seems odd to me.
Is this a good entry point for either of these?
Thanks again.
Dave

Q: Hello Peter,
I have several 'half positions' in my TFSA and new cash to top up a few. While I know these are very different companies (APR.UN, AVLR, EGLX, PHO, XBC, FVI and ENGH), if you were investing with a 5 year time frame and had a 7 or 8 out of 10 comfort level with risk, in what order would you top these up, with the goal of best total return (not necessarily 'home runs'). Thanks in advance!

Q: In less then a month I am up 50% on Twitter. As a result Twitter is now 5% of my portfolio. Similar story with AT.TO, up 90% and just over 5% of the portfolio. I am thinking of trimming Twitter (25%)and significantly trimming AT (50%) before q results. Money to be used for ICHR, what weighing would you start with or is it better to go with SOXX at 5%? I believe I need a position in this sector given current/future demand.

Don't you think AC stock is getting ahead of the reality and air canada path back to business will not be as smooth as the stock is indicating? Or are the investors looking 2 years ahead and are willing to discount any turbulence? Is that the strategy here?

Q: Hi group watching these high growth/high valuation stocks going down..down....down. Is it time to cash out and lock in what profits I have left usually do nothing is the best strategy but i am struggling to make any sense of that as the present environment feels different - your thought on sell or hold would be appreciated

Q: Hi,
Current tech holdings at 24% (which doesn't include AMZN, GOOG, FB - included them in consumer disc. and telecom). These three would add another 3% weight if included in tech. Are you comfortable at 24-27% tech for a growth investor?
I'm looking to trim my tech slightly and add to these sectors - Materials, Energy, Industrials, Financials. Looking for asset-heavy, cyclical, economically sensitive companies. What would be your top 2-3 growth picks in each four sectors (cdn or US) that will benefit with inflation, rising rates, and further economic opening? Thanks!

Q: Some time back I was looking at buying either Linamar or Magna. Sadly, I went with Linamar. It has gone up, but no where like Magna. At this point, the outlook for Magna still seems very positive; where does Linamar go from here? I feel like I missed the boat on Magna, or would a switch still be a good idea? Thanks for your excellent service.

Q: Every time I've looked at BAM or related companies I see a negative EPS (over a period of time). Everyone loves the parent and most of the subsidiaries and the buyers are usually rewarded. I don't understand how this works. I can't think of many companies with a similar profile of consistent success and apparently consistent losses. Is it all about cash flow?
