Q: Hi 5i
I'm doing some portfolio clean up based on the assumption that the next 12 to 18 months are going to bring economic doldrums as the economy reacts to interest rate increases which, I think, take a while to filter down to where they effect corporate profits generally and, possibly, to where manufacturing and construction falls off enough to directly affect these names.
I'm thinking about selling DXT, CSW, WJX, LIF, and MREL (all at modest losses but in a registered account so no tax benefit) on the premise that they will not do so well over the next year and will take quite some time thereafter to recover such that there is a significant opportunity cost to holding them. (I was happy enough to hold them for their respective dividends/growth in the before times, but not so much now when growth seems unlikely.)
Could you give me your thoughts on my thesis in general and on how I've applied it to these names - is it sensible to sell them now at quite small losses given what is likely coming for them over the next year or so, when compared to what might be made of the money they are presently tying up if I handle it right.
Thanks!
Peter

Q: For my wife's Cash account. Ignore asset allocation...I already own all of these and have some top-up monies available and assigned towards each of these 4 = BNS, FTS, NRGI, NWC.

I have designated monies to invest/month over the next 3 months (I am roughly half way into my re-investment strategy).

In terms of upside potential, what order would you buy these? My thoughts => NRGI, then BNS, then FTS, then finally NWC.

Thanks...Steve

Q: My son has a small portfolio consisting of two ETF’s and seven stocks (CN, AAXN, NVDA, CRWD, DDOG, DIS, TTWO). We have picked stocks that have good potential, but that are also fun for him to follow. He is using the ETF’s to give his portfolio some diversification with 20% in ZSP and 15% in XIT. He is investing for the long term. He now has some extra cash to buy another stock or two. Would you have some suggestions? We are also thinking of selling XIT and splitting the proceeds between CSU and maybe one other stock. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Q: With the purchase of Westinghouse nuclear reactor maintenance operations and the re-opening of the McArthur River Mine which should double production, do you have an improved outlook for the Cameco? How would you rate this equity versus other uranium producers? Would you recommend purchasing and if so, what purchase price would you recommend?

Q: I am looking to build a corporate portfolio (i.e. ~40% tax on dividends and distributions), and will be adding a position monthly, then topping those holdings up on a monthly basis ongoing. My timescale is 30 years, and really the only important thing is amount of money at the end. What holdings would be reasonable for such an account? Any preference as to order I add them?

I grew up with Money Saver magazine, so my gut feeling is just to buy a set of big, well run companies that pay dividends. However, the current popular zeitgeist seems to be to just buy an all-in-one fund, like VGRO, and not overthink it.

Please take as many credits as needed to answer this question as completely as possible. Thank you!

Q: Hi 5iResearch
Is there a sector rotation happening now in the market?
If no, do you expect any sector rotation in the foreseeable future?
Unless the answers to both questions are no, can you please identify these sectors (favourable, unfavourable)?
Thank you,

Q: Can you recommend 3-5 choices for an RRSP investment. Can you confirm that one would generally choose less speculative investments or less risky investments within an RRSP, as one can not "harvest" a tax loss within an RRSP

Q: Good Morning. My mother (94 years old) is looking for a metals stock. She asked about Rus. I see it has been flat for a year (-2%). 5i seems to like STLC which is near a 52-w high and up about 60% over a year. I have Teck.b and it is near a 52-w high, so not sure about recommending that. I was thinking NTR (materials) may be a suggestion. Or what about FM as a new thought?

What would the experts at 5i suggest?

BTW, I suggested that she subscribe to 5i but she reminded me that she has never used a computer ... maybe lucky her!

Q: The US dollar seems to be heading lower. You think this might continue for the year?
What is the overall consensus?
Te Mexican peso already strengthened 7% in the last couple of weeks.
How could we play this theme?
Are there any companies you suggest which would benefit from a lower dollar?
Any currencies you think that would have a good upside?
