Q: Hello Peter,
Thank you for your suggestion to have some silver in the portfolio. It got life just when I was considering an exit . This question is also somewhat related.
I am beginning to think that Energy and Commodities have got significant room to run this summer. I am overweight technology and overweight semiconductors within. All my favorite growth stocks besides UPST.
To increase my portfolio in energy and commodities I need to reduce technology including names like NVDA AMAT GOOG etc. I am thinking that the tech sector will not react violently to the upside and there will be sufficient time to rotate back from energy and commodities.
However, I also feel that just when I throw in the towel, the market will find support and bounce back. I do believe in their long term future but perhaps not a bad idea to trade the trend for now. I am on the fence with financials too at the moment, what with the war, asset freezes, bans and Powell tempering his tone.
What would you suggest to me.
Regards
Rajiv

Q: A few days ago I asked about a stink bid for Shopify, and your feeling then we had not evidenced capitulation in the market. What is your feeling today, do you think and feel we have reached a bottom ?
Your thoughts would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

Q: My portfolio is moving in a V direction quickly. Growth on the decline and O&G, materials and gold moving up. I'm still comfortable holding the growth names I own. With the "let your winners run" theme in mind, I will need to rebalance soon which seems to be an impossible task in the current environment. Any advice? My train of thought is to wait till things settle in and then make a decision.

Q: I see bond yield on 30 year US paper around 2.25%. Does it not heavily support the return to lower inflation in the short/medium term?

What's your projection (best guess) for inflation in the next 3 to 5 years? Thank you.

Q: Everyone,
My investment strategy is to hold long term and hold the best of the best. I have not sold any of my tech stocks but I have recently been a buyer. The only thing that has changed in the last six months is the price people are willing to pay - for each seller there is a buyer! The noise will pass someday - I don’t know the day but it will pass.

Q: In line w/ sentiments expressed in the latest market update (thank you for that), would you put any of these names in the "likely beyond repair column"? Or do they all fall firmly in the "damaged but not broken" column?

Q: If Ukraine and Russia reach a ceasefire say in the next ten days, how will the stocks in energy, gold, agriculture and financial sectors react to this new reality.? Specifically will they move fairly quickly, or with a different pace? What other sectors might be worthwhile to move into. Thanks for your valuable guidance. Please deduct as many credits as you deem fit for this broad question.

Q: I know the environment is iffy, but with tech on sale, and other tech (also on sale) flush cash, when do the bigger fish start gobbling up the smaller fish, and what, in your opinion, is holding them back? Thank-you.

Q: I don't know what to ask since my previous question seemed to be regarded as naive and critical . The situation has only become worse as Atlassian Corporation (TEAM ) + Shopify (SHOP) + Lightspeed (LSPD) + Digital Turbine (APPS) ,Crowdsrtrike (CRWD) and Boyd (BYD) are getting hammered every day . I can't see any signs of a rounding bottom , or recovery in these names . Now NVDA had a double bottom breakdown . "Holding" has increased my losses and now other sectors have plunged ... Post Mortem: Reducing Tech and deploying funds into Energy, Materials ,and Financials would have been the best move in recent months . Is it still ?

Q: Good morning 5i
Japan, has been struggling though long bouts of stagflation for a long time (10 years or more). High debt and low growth (after inflation) seems to be a reoccurring theme today. I would say that most G7 countries are pushing the limits of room on the debt servicing side. What metrics are similar to the "Japan" experience and what metrics are not similar?

Q: My apologies if this has been asked before, as I'm guessing it has but I just can't find the thread. Regardless, here goes: given the situation in the Ukraine, and the general instability that this brings, I am a bit perplexed with the recent strength in markets. My portfolio is actually up (slightly), as everything seems to have traction. Your thoughts ?

Q: You use the term the current market craziness a few times for the fall in high growth companies. I feel the same market craziness could have been for the same high growth companies at the top of the market and there valuations. I think the market is finally taking these companies to the value that they actually are.

Q: Dear 5i team.

Is there any time in financial history when we had rising inflation combined with a recession? What would one do in this scenario to protect a portfolio?

Many thanks for your insights.

Q: The general technical pattern of the US markets and other markets to a lesser degree appears to be aggressively trending down, with the recent positive earnings now in the rear view and corrected, unfortunately. I’m reading your language from past comments that the year is expected to be rough for tech but I think it is worth noting that the trend line underway for major indices and even successful companies appears to be headed down and possibly with much bigger drops ahead.
Could you please comment on where you see this from your perspective? Do you expect a sizeable drop ahead and do you advise any mitigation at this point either to rebalance or to sell any current holdings, such as small caps, tech, high debt or other potentially at-risk assets that may be staring down a large drop.
Almost nothing looks to be at a ‘bottom’. To echo a lot of headlines, it looks like there could be a slide ahead.

Q:

Every morning i think of Warren & Charley dipping there cookies into there tea and having a good chuckle on these HIGH GROWTH companies getting a good spanking. A lot of these of these stocks are never going to come back as the field is just too crowded that they are competing in. I was in the market in 2000 and you never heard again of the high growth companies with no earnings again, you lost 100 % of your investment. Warren & Charlie might be turtles but who wins the race
