Q: Hi
I read the question posed by Ronnie today about retirement software and although I have no recommendation there I am reading Your Retirement Income Blueprint by Daryl Diamond and it is helpful.
If anything else comes up I would not mind knowing. Probably more of a blog thing but I do not know how to direct the subject to that area of your website and help with his question at the same time.

Q: Relative to DIY investing, I am in the need of a suite of software (pay per use) that I use to assist with modeling my future retirement. The ability to model different scenarios based on; age, type/source of income, timing, and then to project yearly income and tax implications is necessary. I have recently explored PERC, Canadian Retirement Income Calculator, RazorPlan, and Cascade Financial. Is seems that fee-based advisors RazorPlan, for example, in turn, charge a considerable fee for the reports and/or advice. Might you have a preference or other recommendation?

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and 5i Team,

Peter, with your experience in markets such as the situation we're now in:

Is dollar-cost-averaging over the next year or so a good way to accumulate some good but beaten-down companies?

Can you recommend several Canadian and US ETFs that I can use to take advantage of this dollar-cost-averaging approach?

Finally, since one cannot predict the market bottom with any certainty, what frequency would you add to one's position (weekly, monthly, or ??)

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Q: I received this note regarding GE Fair Fund $200 mil. civil money penalties. Is it worth the time to claim my piece and to go through all the required documents for the 800 shares I had? My cost was around $18k and $7k in losses. The shares were held in an RRSP account.
Many Thanks.

Q: A few stocks I own.....junior explorers moz, ske, lio, have fallen dramatically after recently announced pp's that are handsomely lower than where the stock had been trading, much to the chagrin of current shareholders.
Why do you think management is thinking "get the money now" to advance the project even though current shareholders are being punished.
Larger cap companies like eif and neo have also had recent large placements only to see the sp diminish considerably.
What do you think is going on...thank you for ur comments

Q: I regularly read the Q and A section. Several questions mention being down 50% or more on an investment. I too have had similar losses in the past on a couple of stocks. Aren't these losses a result of inadequate risk management? In order to avoid such big losses, can you suggest a selling strategy or point readers to a discussion of selling strategies?

In the past I have employed a stop-loss but isn't that akin to showing the market your hand? In other words, as soon as you enter a stop-loss price doesn't that price then become another data point for algorithms to hunt down?

Any advice/information you can offer regarding selling strategies to minimize losses would be appreciated. No rush to get this answered. Thank you as always for your expertise.

Q: I find your Watch List very useful and especially the weekly email of all the questions on the list. However, I can't find a way to delete companies I am no longer interested in. Adding companies is easy but I don't want an ever-growing weekly email. Please advise.

Q: Hi, I apologize if this question gets asked a lot but I'm wondering if you could provide me with your thoughts on where you see the market heading. It seems inflation is persisting, although Kevin O'Leary I think made a good point the other day when he commented on how the USA inflation numbers stats don't reflect recent price declines in housing (there is apparently a 6 month or so delay on these stats). I keep hoping to see a recovery getting started but there seems to be little reason for optimism. Thank you.

Q: TV recently announced:

Trading of the Company's shares has been suspended since August 22, 2022 as a result of the Company filing for protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act ("CCAA") and this suspension will continue until the delisting takes effect. In addition to the TSX delisting, the Company expects its common shares will also be delisted in due course from the other exchanges on which the common shares currently trade.

Shareholders retain their legal rights and equity interest and are advised to contact their brokerage where shares are held regarding retention policies for unlisted shareholdings and potential for shares to trade in over-the-counter markets.

Can you please guide me as to what my options are.
1) are the shares I hold virtually worthless or is there a decent possibility that if I hold onto them I will receive something? what would you put the odds of getting something at and what do you think it would be relative to their last closing price of $.205
2) If I wanted to sell the share in the "over-the-counter" market they refer to, how do I do that
3) if it were you, what would you do?

Thank you for your advice

Scott
