Q: As a fairly new investor (5 yrs) I haven't experienced a increase in interest rates and the effects on the equity markets. I hold a well diversified portfolio but I do have some power producers (ATP.to, TA.to, INE.to) I have read and heard the increased interest rates are detrimental to this sector. Do you have any suggestions on how to position a portfolio for the increase and would you sell any of these power producers? (I am not underwater on any of these stocks)

Q: Hi Peter,
I am new to investing and to 5i and am a regular reader. I join the many others in thanking you for the service you provide. It is a great resource for a rookie like me.
I intend to start investing (small) and after reading the many Q’s and A’s have focused in on LIF, AYA, SYZ and SGY. I am looking for short term growth. Finally the questions… which do you think are the top two of these four to start with? And should I buy now or do you think the market will take a downturn throughout Sept and Oct as it seems to do each year?
Many thanks again.

Q: Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TSX:PBH) announced today acceptance by the Toronto Stock Exchange of its Notice of Intention to Make a Normal Course Issuer Bid through the facilities of the TSX and other Canadian trading platforms.
The Corporation is proposing to purchase, for cancellation, up to 5% of its issued and outstanding Common Shares, and up to 10% of the public float of each of its issued and outstanding Convertible Debentures. Does that affect my shares or the stability of the company?

Q: Hi Peter and Team, do you have any thoughts and opinions (or articles you can direct me to) in regards to the benefits of cashing out of a defined benefit pension? Considering interest rates are at their lowest historically, and on their way up again, is now the time to take the cash lump sum instead and invest it myself? Would you consider a blog or article on this subject? I believe (but not sure) this may be the best environment to cash out while rates remain very low to get a much larger lump sum payout into a LIRA and take full control by making 'conservative' investment decisions for much better returns and growth for future payouts in 10/15 years from now. Thanks!
Q: Good Morning: Torc (TOG) is planning a 5 for 1 consolidation. How will this help the company and benefit shareholders? Thanks Mike
Q: info tech is suggested as a place to be in rising interest rates …… is there a ETF in canadian funds or canadian companies which you would suggest
Q: In the situation of my Aug.19 question on trading MSFT, I wonder if this had been a TSX stock, would I be entitled to a fill on the order? NASDAQ has surprised me before when I got a partial fill on a sell order and was left with an odd lot remainder of a board lot, and 2 commissions to pay. I've also learned the hard way not to trade the Pink Sheets. Could I suggest, perhaps for the Moneysaver mag, an article on pitfalls of trading for the small investor, and what the pros do to take advantage of us? Thanks, J.
Q: i have a $100,000, position in your model portfolio, do you have an opinion on what 25% or the top stocks i should keep, as i want to use the balance elsewhere
Q: Looking for your favorite small cap oil (200-2000MM)company recommendations. Or do you think it is better to stick to bigger names? I like profitable, cheap, on the verge of paying dividends.
Q: Hello Peter and Team,
I’m looking at adding 3 to 4 positions in the tech and industrial sector to my portfolio this is for the long term. Been waiting for a while to buy CSU, SYZ, MG and MDA and these stocks have been doing very well what would be a reasonable entry point or should I be looking at other stocks.
Great advise on AYA, BAD, CGX, STN and THI.
Thank you, Ronald

Q: Hi Peter and Team
Do you recommend any particular trading strategy related to how year-end selling pressure may affect stocks that are held,in either a taxable or a non-taxable account?
Many thanks.

Q: Hi Peter:
Last week when you appeared on BNN one comment was "no more than 20% of a portfolio in income stocks" What is your definition of an income stock? Would this definition include REITS, prefs or any stock that pays a divy?
Thanks
Ron

Q: Hi Peter, I am a medium risk tolerant investor with ok weights in utilities, gold, iron ore, base metals, gas stocks, CAE, telecoms, TD bank and a small mix of misc junior speculative miners. I am very overweight oil, CNQ, SU and a little TLM. My question relates however to my Royal Bank RRSP mutual funds. Half my portfolio is into the Royal select growth mutual funds. I have tended to semi ignore and let the bank continue to manage it but the returns have not been stellar. Do you think I would be better off converting them to regular Royal Bank stock, within the RRSP where they now are. Thanks for your help

Q: On your model portfolio, the total start value is 100k. What would you do if you had 400k? Buy more of the same stock, or, limit your purchase to a certain % of your total portfolio and purchse new stocks? If you are purchasing new stocks, do you also spread the risk by investing equally in different sectors.
Q: I would like to take a look at bond offerings. Do you know of any web sites that would provide this information?
