Q: Personally I find very, very little value in quotes from Co.'s
Officers. Do they ever say something negative about their CO.? Even Nortel had positive quotes. That's their job.
Investors of Bankman-Fried were told great things.
Maybe some analysis would be better.

Q: I'm always fascinated to see the disclosure statement at the end of your answers about US listed companies.

"Authors of this answer, directors, partners and/or officers of 5i Research and/or affiliated companies have a financial or other interest in ___"

Do you have a full list of your US holdings for disclosure that you are comfortable sharing with your members?

Q: Question, analysts -- this comes out of a little frustration. I trade on TD Waterhouse and today wasn't able to get this questioned answered by TD. Analyst Scott Buck of H.C. Wainwright has just changed his potential price for EGLX to $1.36. Prior he had this crazy speculative stock at a huge multiple. TD Waterhouse ranks him in the top of the class on todays main trading page for this pick. He as well has MOGO @ $10.86, while it trades at $1.88 Buck apparently has an average net return on his analysist picks of -10%. For an average investor, how the heck is Buck visible and relevant?!? Why would a company like TD give him a high rating & such great exposure?

Q: Hi 5i, I have US$ cash which I would like to use for my 2024 TFSA contribution.

How do I ensure that I do not over-contribute ?

I was thinking of making the contribution after the markets close on a day,
and using the closing US$ exchange rate that BMO Investorline
posts for that day, and calculating what US$ amount equates to the
2024 contribution amount of $7,000CA.

Do you think this would pass muster with CRA ?

Thanks for your help,

Terry

Q: Hi Peter et al:

This is a big picture question based on the recent article on optionson5i Research and also based on Peter's expertise on Options trading. After all your i2i fund is based on this strategy, if I am not mistaken, right?

How does one screen for stocks , selling cash secured puts and Covered calls? Any particular favorite screeners that we can use who don't have fancy Bloomberg terminals? Your excellent article in 2015 talked about Covered calls (where is the promised follow up article?! :)) YouTube is filled with clips that promote either courses or their black box products. I want to develop a methodology that I can use in a systematic manner.

IF I want to protect myself for the expected and very possible downturn in the markets, how does one employ this technique?

Finally what are your stocks selection for such an approach at this time? ( Both for Selling cash secured puts and Covered call)

Feel free to deduct as many credits as you deem fit.

Many thanks.

Q: You often refer to the Return on Equity (ROE) to evaluate companies. Can we find this metric in the Company Profile section or elsewhere? Is ROE similar to the inverse of the P/E ratio, i.e., E/P? Thank you

Q: Hello - would you please explain the merits of journaling Canadian shares that are listed in both the US and Canada. For example, I have RBC. What advantage to I gain by journaling it to the US? Does that impact my Portfolio Analysis to give me more US exposure? At this point, I'm selling Canadian positions and converting the cash proceeds to USD then purchasing (different company) positions in the US. Thanks, al

Q: Received a Class Action Notice from XBC..CA regarding a proposed class action settlement, which reads in part:
"SUMMARY OF THE SETTLEMENT:
On October 19, 2023, the Superior Court of Québec (“Court”) approved the settlement of this class action.
Under the Settlement, CAD $5,000,000 (the “Settlement Amount”) has been paid in full and final settlement of all claims against the Defendants, including Class Counsel’s fees, applicable taxes and expenses, and interest, in exchange for a full release and settlement of the class action."
Number of shares purchased was 800 @$10. Would you know the approximate number of shares that were outstanding at the time (Nov 10 2019 to Mar 24 2021) and In your experience, is it worth it to submit a claim?
Many thanks.

Q: Good Evening
Why is it that only American analysts recommend selling a stock and not Canadian analysts ?
For instance the three analysts that recommend selling Fortis are all American.
Thank you

Q: What would be your opinion of the 50 for 1 split to be voted on in June? I know these splits don't change the company but can help generate buzz with more retail investors seemingly able to buy more shares to form a meaningful position. My question would be do you think CMG have the same ability like a TESLA or Netflix which are two I can think of off the top of my head that split and then ran back up towards their previous pre split price.? thanks

Q: Thanks for your links to retirement planning sites. Just a word of caution, the Canada Life page at https://www.canadalife.com/investing-saving/retirement/preparing-for-retirement/how-to-decumulate-your-assets-in-retirement.html mentions that capital gains in a TFSA are taxable (tax deferred) and capital losses can be claimed which is, of course, incorrect. Quite surprising to see this from a major insurer.

Q: After many years of learning how to make money, still working on that, full retirement is near and I am beginning to learn how to spend my money, and suprisingly, to me, there is more to it that I'd imagined. Using back of the napkin figures, a $68000 investment in HDIV would bring in a little over $600 per month pre tax. This particular ETF has been up and down but roughly flat over 3.5 years, so a guy would have his $68000 in tact, and over $23000 pre tax in monthly distributions from a RRIF. Seems like part of a good income strategy for a guy used to high risk? I use HDIV as an example because I own some. Lastly, I heard about and read " Your Retirement Income Blueprint" here at 5i, looking for more reading information on the topic?
