Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Were Endo's earnings THAT bad. I see mixed reports. It is my only health care stock, which I own only because I owned Paladin. Perhaps I should have switched to Concordia when you put it in the Growth Portfolio. Is it too late to do that, or would you recommend that I just hang on. Endo's one-year chart looks absolutely brutal, and seems to be getting worse. Need guidance. Cheers

Q: I actually own TDB3099, the new series D version of TDB976 with a much lower MER.

Question 1 = Over the longer term this fund has outperformed. Do you like the underlying securities?

Question 2 = I can't find any reference to the fund being hedged or not. Now that oil and the related Canadian $ are no longer plummeting, hedging is more of an issue. Will this fund be impacted by the exchange rate?

Thanks,
Steve

Q: Peter,

Do you think the management team at PHM is competent enough to run a public company?

After listening to the latest earnings call, they can’t forecast the simplest of financial metrics namely revenue growth or gross margins. How can they run a company without this basic awareness of what is going on?

Thanks
John

Q: What are your thoughts on the recent year end financials. With the finances improving and new members added to the board, do you believe the stock will start to be re looked at. Many heavy hitters asked to see ALL these changes and year end numbers. Could you also speak to the balance sheet..cash on hand etc. Would you be a buyer around these prices.
Thanks Jason N

Q: I thought your comments about PHM regarding their revenues, plans and PR ineptness hit the nail on the head. It is distressing to see how they, on the one hand, can integrate the acquisitions and grow revenues and profits - a significant feat - and on the other hand, stumble on public relations. I keep reminding myself that hospitals are kicking people out "feverishly" and 10,000 people a day turn 65 in the U.S. In my Canadian hometown, we have an absolutely fantastic new regional hospital costing $500M in 2010 and beds have been cut by one-third in five years and staff cuts are heartbreaking. Clearly, we live in a new healthcare era and PHM is so well-positioned to capitalize. Is this not a bonanza waiting to happen if they continue to streamline their profitable operation to the point of maximum potential before getting back into acquisition mode? I think this model is so relevant today. Lately, the share price has been consumed and overpowered by traders but the long term prospects could be substantial. Frustration aside, what do you think?

Q: HI Peter and team - I hold some Concordia in a US account and am interested in adding Concordia to my Canadian account. However it has a P/E ratio of about 190. Of how much concern should this be. What would it take to bring this P/E down to a more reasonable level and is Concordia on track for this. Thanks.

Q: I am looking to deploy cash in my TFSA (2016 contribution) and with so many beaten up stocks I am wondering what to buy. I was considering the healthcare section and adding to my existing position in GUD, or perhaps initiate a position in CRH. GUD is now below its financing of $6.75 done around Dec 2014. What are your comments on GUD? Add now or wait for a better market? Or do you prefer CRH or something else in the healthcare sector. Longer term hold, and for a TFSA.

In healthcare I own CXR and GUD, smaller positions in DR and PHM, and very small positions in SIS and PM.

Q: My bank adviser recommended this fund. It has gone from $30 to $50 in the last 2 years. I see a MER of 3.10 and it has back end load.
Can you tell me how this back end load works in general and what you think of this fund? I wonder if there is a little bit of conflict of interest here because the bank sponsors this fund.
