Q: I've had success buying good out-of-favor companies, especially in tax-loss season. In 2020, I loaded up on rate resent preferreds at very low prices (so the effective interest payments were good even if interest rates stayed low). This gave me optionality in case rates ever climbed. I also bought TOU and CVE when oil prices were extremely low.
This is for 5% of my portfolio, and is patient money. Suggestions?
Q: I am considering investing in an electric vehicle company for the long term (5 to 10 years). Would you consider Lucid to be a good investment at this time? How would you compare Lucid to other electric vehicle company investments? Thank you
I am up 40% on CAE, which I don't think is going any farther until planes are back in the sky in a meaningful way. Would you agree?
If you more or less agree, I am thinking of selling CAE and put the proceeds to one or two of the followings ordered base on my losses in each. The original investment is almost the same amount in each stock with the exception of BLFY which was 1/2 of others:
Would you average down or would you sit tight? I know you don't like averaging down in general, but I thought I would ask as sometimes there are better growth opportunities and it does make sense to build up a larger position.
Q: I know you like ADT.B as a company and its management but the stock hasn't done much over the past couple of years. At some point does the lack of share price growth warrant removal from the portfolio?
Savaria is another one, and despite all the potential for a reopening trade Air Canada isn't 'taking off'. Do you think these two should be considered for replacement with something else that can provide better growth?
Q: I just read that Q4 IPO is on again. To me it seems that the company is operating in a fantastic market space, provided it can exploit all the segments. Do you think it has the potential or am I being over optimistic? Are there any other companies operating in this area? Thanks for your input.
Q: There is quite a rush of IPOs coming on the market. Can you please rank the potential of these IPOs and any financial details you may have

Q: As retirees with moderate risk tolerance, Telus is a 4% core holding in a mainly conservative dividend portfolio. We realize (and like) that Telus Health is a small part of the company. We are considering a 1% position in Well for diversification in Health sector, and would appreciate your thoughts on it. Is this an opportune time to buy, or does 5i expect tax loss selling to put more downward pressure as year-end approaches? Thank you. Edward
Q: I recently took profits in IBB and ARKG. I like the sector but would prefer a more focused approach. What are your 5 best biotech stocks for a long term hold. Thanks for this great service. I tell everyone that the best value around is a 5i membership.
Q: Hi guys, got a nice profit in L in the last year. Thinking about a rotation in small cap like stc, exlc or mdf that are down significantly recently. Your thoughts and how do you rate the small cap stocks mentioned.
Thanks for your reply.
SKLZ has been on a freefall for some time now. Its starting to look interesting to me, but i could be totally incorrect.
Its trading at ~6.1x EV/sales, has no debt and has about $1.72 in cash per share. It seems to be growing revenue quite well each quarter and has a high GP Margin of 95%.
Is this a quality stock that is now at a decent price? May I please get your take?
Q: Hi Team,
I am holding the following stocks at a loss. BABA (-52%), MED (-30%), TT(-4%),EGLX (-33%), MG (-8%), SWKS (-20%), U (-1%), PINS (-33%).
My question is, should I continue to hold the line with all of these? Or are there any that stand out to you as being better off to sell and swap out with a different holding of which you suggest? Or any of these I should be selling, and adding to another one of these? I thought perhaps after yesterdays sell off there might be some moves I should be making. (Although the market is already recovering nicely today on alot of these names). Suggestions here would be appreciated. Thanks!
Shane.
I'm considering adding to my EGLX position. Risk tolerance is high and time horizon is 3-5 years (+). I currently have a small position (430 shares with ACB of $6.9) held inside my TFSA. Would you consider this a good time to add to this position? Has your outlook / conviction changed towards EGLX in the past few months? Are there any other growth stocks that you consider a good buy right now (especially with the recent pullback of tech stocks)? The sector doesn't have to be tech.
Alternatively, I'm considering picking up more TOI or NVEI (I have a strong conviction in both these two and have small positions of each inside my TFSA).
Thanks - love the service and can't recommend it enough to friends and colleagues!
Q: With the recent recent drop in the market, can you please provide 5 US and 5 Canadian stocks which would be good buys at today’s prices. For holding 3-5 years.
