Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I plan to build a small aggressive high growth portfolio within my TFSA. This will represent a very small part of my overall investments.

Can you give me 5 or 6 names of companies that could have great growth potential over the next year or so that I could buy today? Risk is not really a factor as this is a small part of my overall plan and I am quite prepared for volatility and even loss.

Q: Pls. provide a synopsis of their recent quarterly results along with answers to the following questions.

Your analyses of this company usually reference high debt levels. Is not most of this debt for new aircraft purchases that are secured by their CPA with Air Canada? i.e. isn't debt servicing a pass through cost?

My concern in their quarterly and subsequent news is their entry into the equipment leasing business. This seems a strange endeavor for a company seen to have high debt levels. Do you see this as adding significant risk?

Thanks, Hugh

Q: Google is said to have a very wide moat with it being a leader in search. But we all know what happens in tech -- when people reach the top there is no more room to grow or something disrupts that moat and it comes crashing down. How secure is Google and CSU and Shopify of them not being disrupted by new, nimble startups?

Q: After reasonably positive financial results the shares made a new low on large volume. The only negative I could find was the low cash position triggering higher interest rate on the debentures. Would you suggest to continue holding or accept that the market is saying that there is something wrong with the company.
Thanks for the great service. Peter

Q: Hi 5I
Took your advice and stayed out of the Marijuana business. What a bummer man. It feels like the train left the station and I forgot to get on. (isn't forgetfulness one of the side effects)
Having said that, I get your theory that there is too many unknowns, however, the near sweep of relaxing laws in the US election has me feeling the inevitable will occur in Canada. If you were to bet (I acknowledge its a gamble) on one producer, who would that be?

Q: 5i,
From all of us who purchased Nvdia on your enthusiasm THANK YOU!
Now from a portfolio management perspective, with the stock up 114% year to date, and perhaps popping in the 20% range today, should investors take some off the table (as 5i did with some of its winners in the summer) perhaps to purchase more in the future. IT stocks are otherwise getting trimmed in market and the NASDAQ facing pressure. It looks as though the growth prospects for NVDA are good, but seem tied to TESLA. Stocks like Tesla may face pressure with a Trump presidency.

When last asked about weighting, 5i suggested 15% for Info. Tech (Sept 26), with the usual "weighting is a personal/situational decision". For the average 5i (model portfolio style investor) what would you suggest today for an info. tech weighting based on this evolving US investing environment?

thanks for the great service, kathleen
