Investment Q&A

Q: Most equity investments I make are made with a long term view (buy and hold). My recent readings of investment material have concluded in many cases that one of the best indicators of long term successful and rewarding investing is to invest in excellent company management. I would consider some examples of excellent management would be JNJ and closer to home BAM. Both of which I currently own.

Given the great many risks (domestically and internationally) currently threatening even a conservative approach to investing. I am looking to identify up to 10 large companies that have clearly demonstrated excellent consistent management capability. Your consideration in helping me with this by identifying some qualifying companies would be most appreciated. My thought is that at least 5 out of 10 would be Canadian and would be large companies.

Thank you

Q: In the past, 5i has often made reference to a falling stock's "floor value" as a barometer to judge future risk/potential. In the case of SNC for the value investor, what would your estimate be as to how much of the 407 ETR asset is represented in the current stock price? I imagine this is one of Ontario's most attractive infrastructure assets. Are markets pricing in any stock value beyond the 407 asset?

Q: Thank you for your work on these stocks. Interesting!

With regard to ACB, I see a market cap of $9B an $50M in sales. I guess their 25% participation in CLIC comes from an equity raise ? If so, how did they justify the dilution to their shareholders ? I suppose having a retail platform ready to go and 25% of an operating company is a positive although bought with very expensive stocks... I am interested in your comments. Not sure if my reasoning is correct. Also, with 25% ownership of CLIQ, are they now in charge ?

Q: What are your thoughts on Organigrams' last two Quarterly reports? Combined together, it shows OGI made 35 cents over the previous 6 months. If this type of earnings power is sustainable, Organigram looks like its pretty attractive at these levels, in my opinion. Are there any one time items during the previous 2 Q reports that would account for the impressive eps numbers. From my perspective, both reports look pretty clean.

I appreciate your thoughts.

John
