Q: It would appear that gold may have bottomed out. I already hold G and like it because, apart form the price of gold, it is well run, with sound business practices in place and attention to generating decent returns for investors. l am looking to add another gold stock and am looking for your guidance. I would like a company that, regardless if gold stays where it is now or drops a bit further, still looks okay on fundamentals (e.g. producing gold at a low cost per oz, & has good reserves), has lots of cash on hand, does not need to go to the capital markets for more financing, trades at a substantial discount to book value, would provide excellent upside if gold moves higher, and hopefully has mines in stable countries. Ross Healy, a guy I really respect, picked IMG the other day on BNN as a gold stock having substantial upside however I see their main operating mines are in West Africa (Burkina Faso, Suriname, Mail) which turned me off a bit in terms of stability.
Any comments on a pick would be appreciated. Love your service.

Stuart

Q: Good morning,

I would like to add some gold to my portfolio, about 15k in holdings. There have been some positive results from rio alto and b2 gold of late, but my stomach aches when thinking of reinvesting in them given the losses suffered when gold imploded last year. Could you comment on the two, recommend a good alternative or ETF for gold exposure as a hedge against market capitulation, and lend comment to gold in 2014.

Thanks as always,

Eric

Q: This may not be within your scope, but I would appreciate your opinion on the general reputation (for delivery of results) and past performance of issuers of Flow-Through LP's. I.E. their NAV at the time of the Mutual Fund Rollover approx 2 years down the road. In checking the 'New Issues' available from TD/Waterhouse for instance the following are listed right now...
Brompton,CMP,Front Street,MRF,NCE,NORREP & Sprott.

I welcome your insight!

Thanks

Q: Hello 5i Team, I would like your opinion on Energy Fuels (EFR)? I know the price of uranium has to be considered, but do you see much upside potential in this company in the next couple of years or is this a much longer term hold?

Q: When I was still using the services of a broker/adviser, I was persuaded to buy some Teck Resources TCK.B when it was having a good run. It dropped considerably after that. I’m no longer using a broker/adviser and during the summer, I doubled down on this stock and bought at a good price. I am finally at a situation where I am breaking even and the shares represent 5% of our total Registered plans. We are retired and are looking forward 10-15 years max., but need some growth and income in the meantime. Should I hold on?

Q: Good morning. Re: OSK Osisko.
OSK at a $9 cost basis is my only gold stock.. It now appears likely that no other bidders will emerge - would you agree with selling OSK at current bid price and buying Goldcorp? (I hate gold stocks)

Q: Sherritt Int. (S) I have a small “speculative” position (ACB $3.73) that I had been acquiring on the premise that they would do something with the Coal assets and become predominantly a Nickel Miner/Refiner and when the Nickel market improves have a good mid/longterm upside potential.

They have sold the Coal assets but I hadn’t contemplated the Obed spill and George Armoyan’s “activism” and the pending “Proxy fight”. Shareholder activism is generally a good thing. If nothing else it tends to remind the Management and BOD of their responsibility to the Shareholders. In this case I am not sure what George Armoyan has to offer if he is successful in his effort to basically take over the BOD. I am not aware that he or his two other BOD nominees have any International Mining experience.

Your thoughts will be appreciated. Would you hold a “small speculative position” and see how things play out or get out of the way and watch from a distance? I am basically a mid/longterm investor and have learned that having patience with a company that is going through a rough patch can be very rewarding.
