Q: The junior gold space is looking quite enticing to me.
Do you think a toe could be put in the water here and would PLG and/or TMM be good candidates?
Do you have a favourite junior gold?

Q: Peter and Team,

I believe gold is needed for portfolio insurance. It costs you to have it but the day you need it you will be very happy you had it.

My current portfolio breakdown is 86.7% equities including cash and 13.3% bonds. Of the equity exposure, 9.6% is cash, 7.3% gold and silver bullion, and 5.44% precious metals stocks (BTO - 1%, MUX - 0.33%, NGD - 0.83%, SGN - 0.2%, and Goldcorp is 3.1%). All of these are down from higher levels.

My question is about Franco Nevada. I like the company and the business model and am thinking of selling all or some of the stocks to replace with Franco Nevada. I currently have total exposure to PM's of 12.74%. Can you suggest if FNV is a good replacement for any or a group of the above? I think its cash position is still strong and it still makes free cash and pays a decent yield.

Your thoughts?

Q: Good morning Peter and Team,

I am another unfortunate soul who has a position in G (down 48% at the present). Thank goodness though for diversification, as my overall portfolio is up a lot in large part because of 5i's picks.

Having said that, since gold is normally held in a portfolio to add stability in tough times, and since the Canadian dollar is currently very weak, wouldn't an investment in a US dollar currency ETF such as DLR accomplish the same goal with substantially better safety and much lower volatility? I'm not saying this "theme" would be valid forever, but what do think about it for the next little while?

Thanks as always for your insight.

Q: Bottom dwellers ripe for picking: AGI, BTO, RMC, MND, TXG & NSU & YRI?

Many Thanks! Austin

Q: For several years I have held a small position (approx 1.5% of my portfolio) in Central Fund. I have held this out of an idea that I should have something of intrinsic value in my portfolio. I am still up on CEF by around 70%.

Given recent events in Greece and China I would have expected Gold, and precious metals in general, to have rallied a bit. They didn't seem to move very much if at all.

I don't believe inflation will be a concern for a few years.

Is it worth keeping my position in CEF ? I still will have some exposure to Gold through Goldcorp (which has the benefit of a dividend).

Q: Do gold-producer stock-price declines suggest sector capitulation? Understanding that gold itself may be range-bound for some time, is there bounce potential for the producer stocks? Wrt FNV, how does one assess the relative contributions of gold vs. oil+gas? Please feel free to suggest an alternate vehicle for this sector; I never expected to see so many 'blue-chip' producers so far down.

Q: Hi Team,

Blake asked a question about Goldcorp (G) and you suggested the possibility of exiting the materials sector altogether.

As a long-term, value contrarian should I be looking at that as a buy signal, now that it looks like capitulation is occurring? ;-)

Seriously, if you were to pick a handful of materials companies that will survive the onslaught which ones would they be? The more down trod the better (but still able to survive).

Sorry, I don't mean to be cheeky. I totally respect your advice and service and follow it daily. Your advice has helped me make a good chunk of money, which would not have happened without my membership and I really appreciate it. Don't know where I'd be without you!

Cheers, Michael

Q: Good morning Peter. I would like to invest in the metalls/resources sector for 3 year hold as current prices seem to be historically low. Can you suggest 5 good company's that can sustain the current downturn (lower debit, good assets, reasonable cash flow) that look very attractive at current price levels. Thank you for your great service.

Your comments on Purchasing XGD for a possible trade by the end of the year?

Thanks

Q: I am acutely aware that Gold is down sharply today. You have already answered another member about the investors losing confidence in commodities.
Of the medium sized Gold companies CG seems to have held the price better than others though it is also down! For example compared to Alamos, Yamana, Eldorado and such.
I see not many questions on CG on members' questions. None for a year approximately. What are the companies that can be compared to CG?
Any opinions or comments?
Thanks in advance.

Q: I currently do not hold any precious metal stocks, and am very grateful for this. I know some of this is pure luck, and am wondering about your contrarian view on the sector. I see some stocks like YRI, G, ABX that have gone down so low that surely there is "blood in the streets". Is this a time to step in, or is this not 5i's style of investing? If this is not a recommended style, I would totally understand, but figured I would ask. Thank you!

Q: Can I please have your updated opinion on Harmony Gold (HMY)? It's drifted significantly lower recently and the CEO just announced his retirement. Wondering if these two events are related and the overreaction is presenting a buying opportunity?
