Q: If gold appreciates significantly in the next few years, would you buy bullion wafers/coins or shares in quality companies such as Agnico Eagle or Franco Nevada?
With appreciation,

Q: I have owned Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) periodically over the past few years and the trades have been good. I like trying to trade DPM because it has net cash on the balance sheet and two profitable gold mines in Bulgaria. I also think that if the share price of DPM drops below my entry price by a lot the company will use its cash and start a large buyback or raise the modest dividend. But I just noticed that they used perhaps half of the cash on the balance sheet to buy a gold project in Namibia (Osino mines). What do you think of this deal? Was it a good acquistion? I think the next quarterly result will be good bcause of the higher gold price in the good ore grade at Bulgarian mines could make for good earnings. So aside from the Osino deal what do you think of DPM as a short time trade or longer term hold?

Q: Hi, can you recommend 2 US and 2 CDN metal stocks for a long term hold to total a 8% total position in metals? I'm ok with medium risk. If you have other choices besides the ones I've mentioned (CMC, FCX,CCO, RS, STLD, AMR) please suggest them.

Q: Peter; I’ve gone over your previous answers on AA and obviously it’s not your fav- but I’m just looking at the 5 year chart and see it maybe bottomed- 5 year high up in the $90’s - won’t it participate with a declining USD ? Your thoughts please. Just a small flyer .

Thanks.

Q: I want to get into gold stocks and have always preferred Franco Nevada in the past. Should I look at buying some of it now, and what other companies would you recommend to complement it if I do? (In the same sector) Thanks

Q: Greetings:
If you were establishing a position in gold miners, which would it be with reasons. B2 has hardly come off it's low with a nice dividend, Why? Must be a reason. I have been following gold closely for 50 years, and usually it amounts to no more than the rate of inflation, even though people like your old boss Eric was calling for $5,000.00 gold 15 years ago. However, one shouldn't knock all that hot air because it made him many millions.

Thanks, Ben.

Q: I am reading about the benefits of adding commodities to a portfolio (PIMCO /Ibbotson 2006 study). Low correlation with other assets, positive correlation to inflation, optimal allocation from 9 to 29%.

Any overarching comments on the pros and cons of commodities in a portfolio?

Can you recommend how a regular DYI investor might try to add exposure to this area?… an ETF? Any specific securities you recommend taking a closer look at? I don’t want to be buying pork belly contracts!

Lastly, suggestion on ranges of how much commodities should represent in a portfolio? A conservative investor would be X% while an an aggressive investor would be Y%.

Q: I saw this comment today.

We expect that its royalty interest will be upheld in international arbitration. Although not imminent, this royalty which accounts for 22 per cent of its net asset value represents excellent upside optionality once Franco Nevada and operator First Quantum Minerals has its day in court.

What are your thoughts on:
1) Has the market basically written off this royalty stream in FNV's stock price at this point?
2) Great buy at this point given bonus upside down the road when things hopefully resolve and they recover something.
3) Would you sell WPM to buy FNV given this? Though WPM has higher potential returns given its silver exposure i think.

Q: Hi 5i,
I hold above stocks 2%, 1.5% and less than 0,5% of fortitude. Thinking of selling Fortitude to add to my now decreased position in FNV. Which do you think has more upside? If even, given recent FNV decline and lower risk, I might go for more FNV as I am becoming more conservative. I am OK to take some higher risk given Fortitude is a small position.
Your thoughts please on FNV and Fortitude and suggested strategy.
Thank you.
