I generally use the Q/A database to investigate your research on specific stocks. For the first time, there is a Canadian company with no submitted public questions. (Abcourt Mines). A log established but small GOLD producer. I have owned the company in the past and am now considering establishing a very small position. Mostly because GOLD appears to be breaking out. I am thinking a short term (1 -3 years). Can you comment on the company, it's fundamentals and any other comment sthat you think are relevant. Thank you.
GOLD is now reaching (or exceeding) an all time high in $US. I wonder if you could comment on the sector. Could the recent rise be partially due to uncertainty (2 wars, a pandemic, global warming concerns, inflation, etc.). Could it also be due to increased demand by the Commonwealth Mints to respond to the minting of coins for the new monarch. Any comments on the breakout from a technical analysis would be handy as well. Feel free to deduct a few question credits as I have asked a few questions in this note.
Q: Gold above $2050 would be bullish I think. Wondering what your thoughts are on this asset category at this time and looking for your top two large and small cap picks that would have torque to a higher gold price.
Also a comment on the dividend sustainability of B2 would be appreciated.
Q: Jf Tardif - for whom you have endorsed in the past as a ‘smart guy’- was on Bnn today recommend his top 3 junior gold picks that should bounce back next year. His picks were as follows: KNT, ORE, AMC.
In your answer to yesterday’s question about your favourite junior golds, you mentioned: KNT, KKR, OLA.
What do you think of Tardif’s picks and how would you rank the 5 securities in order of preference? Thank you
Do you think it may be prudent to swap out Franco Nevada shares now (considering the growing list of political/legal headwinds) for something else?
If so can you give a Canadian suggestion for gold exposure, along with two other picks (any sector) for a possible year-end through January bounce (CAD or US)? Thanks. Brad
Q: Hello Peter,
I've held FNV shares as my gold allocation since Q4/2018. Currently, I have a "reasonable" return of 8% per annum including dividends. With all the legal drama FNV is realizing in Panama, is it wise to sell FNV and buy another streamer or hold FNV for the long run?
Sitting with a taxable cap gain of 28%. Seems like the impact of FM is going to be significant for future earnings. Please advise your wisdom. Thank you.
Q: What do you think of the following news about FNV? Thank you
Cobre Panama Supreme Court Update
TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2023 /CNW/ - Franco-Nevada Corporation ("Franco-Nevada") (TSX: FNV) (NYSE: FNV) is aware that the Supreme Court of Panama announced this morning that Law 406, the law that approved the revised concession contract for the Cobre Panama mine, is unconstitutional. Franco-Nevada is in communication with its partner First Quantum Minerals Ltd. and will provide further updates as they are available.
Q: I am at a loss with Franco Nevada. Would that make sense to sell soon after the ex-dividend date of December 6th to realize a tax loss and buy again in 2024 (˃ 30 days) once we know more about the Panama situation? Do you think the FNV stock could still go much lower than it is today? Thank you
Q: Do you feel Uranium and Nuclear is really the long term solution for clean energy? If so, would Cameco be your best (safest) play in the space as a producer or would you pick a smaller exploration company? Thanks
Q: Since the mine in Panama is 20% of FNV revenues and the share price is down about 20% from the approximate $200 valuation expected with the current price of gold (based on past episodes), would you consider the total loss of this revenue stream to be "in the price", or is there further downside if the court ruling goes against the mine?
Q: Hi, my question is which etf to buy in the Sprott precious metal group? I’m selling my bullion and buying a etf. I can buy gold, gold and silver, platinum and palladium or uranium.
My plan was to just buy gold ( phys), but I see I have other choices. What would be your suggestion for a 4-5 minimum year hold?
Thanks
Q: Hi 5i
Given current situation with the Panama referendum, What value does this mine contribute to FM overall value and assuming the vote is negative and FM loses it licences ect...what would you estimate the fair value share price to be...current price is around $13.50.....(I imagine the immediate reaction would be very bad...).....Hi 5i
Additional info for my First Qauntum question, Currently hold small position and want to decide if i should unload it or hold on...inside a registered plan so no tax benefit to sell.
