Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. Class A Limited Voting Shares (BAM)
Q: The dust has settled a bit on the BAM spin off. So much for newBAM being undervalued within oldBAM ( now BN). Before the split I had shares of one company worth 44k, now I hold 2 companies one worth 36k (BN) and the other 8k (BAM). I have no need to hold both BAM and BN, do you have a preference for balanced but moving to income investor. 5+ year hold. The book on BAM in my account is showing as " zero" so looks like selling BAM would be 100% cap gain...Selling BN would be about the same net cap gain as I have done well owning it. So there is no real tax advantage to going one direction or the other in my unregistered account..
So hold both and get annoyed looking at the smaller positions in both, sell BN and buy BAM, sell BAM and buy BN or Sell both and buy your current new favorite...

Q: Any thoughts on Goodfellow inc./GDL. Debit looks reasonable, low p/b and p/e and ok dividend, I must be missing something?
Thanks
Thanks

Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. Class A Limited Voting Shares (BAM)
Q: I am looking to add to one or both of BN and BAM. Do you have a preference on one or the other. I know that one is growth oriented and one is income oriented but are their present valuations similar - is one priced better than the other. Thanks.

Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. Class A Limited Voting Shares (BAM)
Q: Hi, will the new BAM and BN only pay out dividend income and not any other type of income like ROC or interest etc as the other Brookfield entities have over the years. I will buy them in a cash account and don’t want the record keeping hassle the other entities are known for. Also, any idea what the yield on BAM might be? Lastly, do you think this is the final BN spinoff? Many thanks for the incredible service you provide.

Hamilton Enhanced Canadian Bank ETF (HCAL)
Q: Growth investor, high risk tolerance, who enjoys dividends as well. Im currently sitting close to 21% in Financial Services, a combination of long held holdings with big gains; GSY, SLF, newer purchases down slightly; ZEB, HCAl, and the newest and worst performer ECN. Stock positions are close to 5% each, I add or trim accordingly, ETF's are smaller. I wrestle with knowing holding good companies long term is the way to outperform, against opportunity costs of holding underperformers and or overweighting the wrong sectors for the year. If you managed your own $, what % would you hold here, if trimming, what order ? Emotionally it's much easier to trim GSY with big gains than ECN at a loss, but then there is the trimming the winner and holding the looser thing?

Power Corporation of Canada Subordinate Voting Shares (POW)
Q: I own 5% and 2% positions in SLF and POW respectively. I'm looking to take a 2% position in IFC. Is there enough P&C business to set IFC apart from the others and make the decision to add this stock? i.e. not so much overlap.
With regards to the whole Financial sector, what percentage allocation does 5i see as a sort of maximum?
Regarding the P&C business, I'm wondering if the eventual reliability of self-driving cars will negatively impact IFC's business. Not sure if you have an opinion one way or the other on this.
IFC has had incredible growth. Is the industry still fragmented enough for them to sustain this growth?

Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. Class A Limited Voting Shares (BAM)
Q: I apologize for another question about these entities, I did search the question archives and did not see this clarified, how was the market value of each respective entity post split determined? Does it make economic sense? Thank you.
Q: Good Morning,
Any idea what the quarterly dividend will be for BAM after the split?

Brookfield Wealth Solutions Ltd. Class A Exchangeable Limited Voting Shares (BNRE)
Q: If I understand correctly, BNRE shares are exchangeable 1:1 for BN shares. Is there an advantage to do so? Now or at future date and under what circumstances?
As always, thank you for the valuable information you provide.

Q: Any idea why this company is not enjoying the January run or bounce. Inflation data shows its easing, hinting at interest rate stabilization.

Thanks

Fiera Capital Corporation Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (FSZ)
Q: These stocks make up the Financial portion of my portfolio. I would like to concentrate my holdings (just because you have suggested it in the past). V and FSZ are each approximately 1.5% of my portfolio and the others are each around 2.5%.
I am considering selling FSZ and V in order to buy more of the remaining stocks. Would you endorse this move or given the different types of companies represented should I just stay the course? Capital gains would be owing on V and I tend to hold for the long term.
Appreciate your insight.

Q: Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) said Monday it plans to commence a normal course issuer bid to purchase up to 31.8 million of its class A limited voting shares, representing about 10% of the public float.
Can you tell me how many shares are outstanding. Can you also tell me how such a reduction in the public float might impact the dividends paid out to shareholders over time (e.g. direct correlation)? Could this be the type of company that might annually try to reduce its float 10% to drive its own stock price re-rating? Lastly, is it common for a new company/spin off such as this one to start buying back its own shares?

Q: Is it expected that dividends for these two companies will be paid in US dollars as BAM.A previously did?
Q: Hi,
In general most of the Cdn banks have turned up lately, some more so than others, but it is the TD that I am most curious about. On Jan 3rd and 4th, there appeared to be very large buying volume, yet by the 5th it started to trend downwards, out of sync to the others. Was there a news item on TD that I've missed? As the Big Six tend to move in the same direction, this caught my attention. So I'm wondering if there is a reason and is it something to be concerned about?
Many thanks!

Q: I hold some Canaccord Genuity Group preferred shares. Canaccord announced a few days ago that they are looking at taking the company private. But the offer is only for the common shares and not for the preferred shares. It sounds like the company will delist their common shares from the TSX, but its preferred shares will continue to be listed. Should I be worried about this? Thanks.

Q: Dear 5i team.
Is there an ETF that holds multiple Brookfield Companies to spread out individual entity risk? Is there a combo of Brookfield holdings that accomplish something close that saves the MER?
Many thanks for your help.
