Q: Can you please give an update on COIN, especially in light of the new spot BTC etfs that are now available.

Coinbase charges 2.5% transaction fees, a business that will surely suffer now that there are ways to participate in BTC for 20 basis points. From what I rave read, COIN, as the custodian for several of these ETFs will be paid 5 basis points for AUM.

That’s 245 basis points lower than what they are make on their trading fees.

What is your outlook on this company? Is there any compelling reason to hold it? Please give your bull and bear case.

Thank you.

Q: TD appears to be in some trouble with both its business activity and its share price. Several questions about TD have been recently asked and the answers have been a bit bland. Can you assess the stock and all that is happening and give your view for the future. I have owned TD for many years but concerned with what is going on. It's not what I expect from a top bank. Just to recap some recent events at TD at a high level - earnings were a bit disappointing, a former employee was charged with drug money laundering and bank employees knew about a probe 6 months before disclosing it. The share price has recently dropped much more than its peers. A recent response from 5i that TD went ex dividend I don't think accounted for anywhere near the drop in price that day. Do you still consider it a top bank pick?

Q: I've owned this stock for over a year now. It moves with BTC and sometimes goes up and down proportionally and many times moves at a premium to BTC.

Over the last week it has performed very differently to how it has over the past year VASTLY underperforming the underlying asset.

I know all about the company and its holdings of BTC, don't spend time explaining that.

I've searched everywhere and cannot determine why MSTR is so underperforming BTC in the past 7 trading days where BTC has moved very bullishly.

eg.

Currently BTC is up 5.47% and MSTR is up 1.2%

Over the past 5 days BTC is up 9.75% and MSTR is down 8.9%

Can you advise why the major discrepency?

Thanks

Sheldon

Q: Hello,
I have built up a TRI position in a registered account since 2006, and it has now grown to become just under 10% of the portfolio. I plan on continuing to hold for many more years unless something changes.
Bearing in mind your usual advice about position sizing and over concentration, and understanding that you can't provide personal recommendations, is TRI a company that you would be more comfortable holding in an 8-10% weight, or a 6-8% weight?
Thanks.

Q: I am overweight in financials with BNS, TD, SLF, POW, Visa and underweight in Utilities. I was thinking of letting POW go. Thoughts on this?

For Utilities, I looked at TA with its very low P/E but it is still stuck in non-renewables at the moment. Thoughts on this? What utility (ies) would you suggest?

I am just asking for thoughts/suggestions.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Q: Dear 5I:
The CEO of IGM believes they have done enough acquisitions, and wants to do a pivot and concentrate more on organic growth. The dividend is good, and secure, B/S good, Price at a wide discount to NAV, The big drawback that I see is that it is much lower in price than it was 10 years ago. Ugh!!! Any "chance in your mind"that his dream could turn to reality.
Thanks, BEN.

Q: Since noting the increase in the holding of IFC in the 5i BEPORT I have compared it to my holding in DFY to see if I should switch, but what I see is that IFC trades for a much higher PE and that performance since Nov 2021 has been only 27% vs 73% for DFY.

I understand that IFC is the industry leader, much bigger market cap, higher dividend etc but what is the real attraction here or is it that DFY is too small for the BEPORT?

Q: With the potential Bit Coin Spot ETF ruling on January 10th from the SEC being a positive one for BlackRock, Vanguard, Fidelity, Ark and other Investment Companies, does it make sense (and dollars) to take a nibble on HIVE or MARA (knowing there would be a 30% currency hit in the case of Mara)? I realize things will be very volatile so just a small position to start. Thanks, Lesley
