Q: A thousand thank you's for AVO.....
If I remember correctly few days ago you mentioned a stock that you would give it an A if if was less volatile or something like that. Can you tell me what the stock was.
Thanks again.

Q: Hi, is this a good entry point for Aston Hill Financial (AHF)?
Thank-you.
Thank-you.
Q: Hi
I read your excellent answer to Dave this morning in which you say "The main drivers to equities are (1) earnings (2) interest rates and (3) money flows (people going to cash/shifting from bonds to stocks). If earnings are strong and growing, and interest rates are low (i.e right now), it is hard to predict a big fall in the market.
I want to buy additional shares in Royal Bank [RY] but I have been watching the price rise steadily since the summer and am severely conflicted. Do I just go ahead and buy now because of the 3 parameters you mention are in force, or do I wait for a hoped-for 5% or more market pullback?
The current payout ratio is 49% for RY and the yield only 3.81% so I would expect a dividend increase because of the rising stock price and falling yield, but with the payout ratio so high [normally in the 45% range I believe for banks] is this even likely?
Many thanks... Paul

Q: DIVIDEND ETFs: I agree completely with your 03 Nov. Reserarch Blog article "Five Reasons to Love Dividends". Dividend income constitutes a significant (and growing) portion of my current retirement income.
RBC is about to launch 3 new dividend-oriented ETFs (RCD, RUD, RWD) and in August Vanguard Canada launched 2 new dividend-oriented ETFs benchmarked to the US Dividend Achievers Select Index. Please comment on these offerings as an alternative to holding dividend-oriented mutual funds or a portfolio of individual dividend-paying equities.
Thank you.

Q: Hi,
What do you think about FTN? It has grown nicely over the months due to the strength of the financial sector and coupled with capital gains is also paying a hefty dividend. Their dividend I think you mentioned is considered return of capital. What are the risks of investing in this product considering the finance sector continues its upward trend

Q: Two short questions: i)what's the 3 year upside on the Canadian banks? ii) do you consider preferred shares fixed income or equity? Thanks.
Q: Hi there, what do you think about CFD right now, the convertible debenture ETF? It yields 5%. Will it basically follow along a standard bond ETF?

Q: I have 5 k to invest in a new half position in my RRSP portfolio and have it narrowed to one of the following: DHX, FSZ or EH.
Any of of these jump out at you as the best for growth over time?
Thanks in advance,
Greg.

Q: i know people have been asking about Counsel Corp and it's recent declines, and i was wondering if you thought it was a buy at current levels? Is this a company you still view +vely for the future? Do you like the current valuation on the stock? I'm debating whether adding Counsel to my portfolio of Wanted Technologies (granted they are very different). They would make up a small speculative portion of my portfolio.
Q: I would appreciate your opinion on Visa. As you know they announced their earnings yesterday and the stock is down significantly this morning. It is about a 3% position in my portfolio and my average purchase price is $125.00. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Q: TRI has had a good run this year, so is it time to take some profits? What do you expect it to do from here?
Q: Hello Peter.
I am always looking for a home for my cash when not fully invested. Money markets provide a skinny but safe return.
I have noticed a couple of senior loan ETFs ie blk and fsl.
My understanding is in a world of increasing interest rates the holdings in these ETF will have their yields also increase (floating) thus the best of 2 worlds. Knowing there is no Santa Clause what am I missing
as always
Thanks

Q: Would it make sense to book my profits on Carfinco (CFN) and buy Fiera Capital (FSZ)? Thanks for your help.
Q: I'd like to know what your top three recommendations (in order of preference) are in the Financial Sector at this point in time, to hold for a year or two, and why. Thanks!
Q: Hi Peter
Since Olympia Financial [OLY] got a listing on the TSX a month ago the stock popped up about $5. Is it still a good buy?
Thanks.. Paul
