Q: All of a sudden we are seeing shortfalls in bank earnings and subsequent share price declines. Albeit on a much smaller scale, are we seeing the Financial Sector rollover and/or another oil and gas type of sector rotation?
Or, if one is under invested in this sector would this be a good time to put new or additional dollars to work?
And if so what would your preferred financials be?
Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i: I hold Citigroup and am considering adding another big US bank. Do you have a recommendation? I realize you don't specifically follow US stocks, but your knowledge will surely exceed mine. Thanks.
Q: What do you think of td earings and this bank going forward.
Q: Hello Team
I see that MFC has 1.9 B shares outstanding versus SLF's 612 M. I bought MFC before I saw your report on SLF. Given the similarities between the two companies, is the large number of MFC shares anything to be concerned about. I see the charts of both companies are moving along pretty well in sync.
Thank you for your efforts and great advice.

Q: Hi Peter,
With the dramatic sell off in oil prices lately and all the talk of energy loans that the Canadian Banks have supposedly given. What effect will this have on the Canadian Banks, Should a person be trimming some bank positions? We are long term holders of TD, Royal and BNS( non registered accounts).
Thank you

Q: I currently own these banks and today they are off. Should I sell them or hold on with the Div. I understand they are tidying things up so is this temporary or a good time to part ways.

Q: Will the insurance companies start to stall out if the drop in oil causes disinflation?
Q: How do you feel about US banks, and other than currency difference is there anything else to be aware of when purchasing US stocks for my RRSP
Q: May I have your comments on PWF's latest earnings report? They seem to be doing better with Pargesa or are Pargesa's earning increase all due to one time items? What do you think is better going forward PWF or VIG? I am looking to increase my US exposure but PWF has a better dividend and seems to be generating more growth than before. Part of the attraction with VIG is if the Can $ keeps dropping against the US $.
Q: Hello 5i team
TD is close to itès high for year. I am up over 15% and it now represents 12.4% of my portfolio.

Gord

Q: What's your opinion of KKR? Would you suggest buying it today as an income stock? Is there any growth potential there? Alternatives (e.g. BX)? Thanks.
Q: Hi Peter, last time a question was asked about CIX you answered that it was solid, and that you liked it a lot. Do you still have the same positive opinion on the stock today, six months later? Thanks, Gervais
Q: Okay, of the two American Express and Discovery- your preference and why and is there a third I have not considered- that perhaps I should. looking at a 5 yr hold all things being equal.
Q: I see CHW dropped another 4.5% today to a 52-week low. Is there any apparent reason for this decline? Is there an imminent risk that it will not be able to maintain its 6.5% dividend?
Your thoughts would be appreciated

Q: I've been looking at AHF as a buy with the recent stock weakness and the dividend now at 6%.
One thing I noticed in the stock quote summary was the large discrepency between the share float vs outstanding shares - 55M vs 89.9M.
Is this due to insider ownership?
I also noticed they have some convertible debt.
Are any of these factors something to be concerned about?

Q: Hi, could you please tell me what you think about XEI as quick place to add funds during a market sell off? It's for my income portfolio (40% fixed income, 60% equities)
I like the 4+ % yield and the holdings. I believe iShares lowered the MER on it as well.
My equity portion is made up of the following:
XEI Index 2%
Consumer 3% CTC.A , L
Banks 19% BMO , BNS , NA , RY , TD , TMC , MTG
Insurance 11% MFC , POW , SLF
Utilities 8% EMA , FTS , TRP
Telecom 13% BCE , MBT , RCI.B , T
Prec Metals 6% AEM , TCK.B , SLW
Energy 14% CNQ , CVE , CPG , FRU , SU , ERF
REIT 13% CAR.UN , CHP.UN , HR.UN , REI.UN , TCN
Tech/Industrial 10% ET , MG , MDA , RUS , WSP, MRE
Thanks as always

Q: Could you elaborate a bit on the recent news from AHF confirming a term extension for their managed North American Financials Securities Trust. The news seems to have been well received so I presume the uncertainty regarding this event was the cause of recent price pressure. I am not sure I understand the issue - what was going to happen without the extension and is 5 years a meaningful term?
