Q: Hello Peter and team;

In the Globe & Mail today, under the heading of Stock Analysis, they did some number crunching on some U.S. Insurance Companies.

In my U.S. portfolio i am looking to add a U.S. Insurance company. Out of the 4 companies they highlighted, which one would you recommend for growth, and value?

Thanks

Stephen

Q: In light of the fact there has been no indication of Canadian interest-rate movement, can you suggest a handful of U.S. insurers with decent dividends. And a ETF in that space as well.
Thanks for the great service

Q: I'm thinking of selling BNS (4.5% of total portfolio) while I'm still up 8% and redeploy the cash.
I currently have PWF (1% Holding and down 10%), TD Bank (3.5% holding up 34%), MFC (1% holding and down 5%),
DH (1% holding and down 10%). Would you recommend holding on to BNS or sell and add to one or all of these other financials. Open to other suggestions as well. Merry Christmas

Q: I have held CIX for a couple years, and am about even on the stock price. It was bought for income, and has served OK in that regard, but looking at either BNS or CM, either could give me a dividend boost with perhaps a more positive outlook (?). Would you view this as a worthwhile trade, and if so, do you have preference between BNS and CM? Is there any catalyst on the horizon that would prompt you to hold CIX over a major bank?

Thank-you

Q: Hi Peter and Team,
Can you please provide your opinion on CBL at this juncture? There is significant buybacks, CEO Glassman just purchased 500,000 shares on the open market, and the company continues to deliver good operational results.

Q: Higher rates are finally here. Since the guessing is over, time to invest in companies with insurance revenue. Could you rank these stocks from "profits the most from the rate hike plan" to "profits the least": PWF, POW, SLF, MFC? If there is too little difference for your taste, could you use the valuations and dividends to help the ranking. Thank you.

Q: I know that you don't cover US stocks, but you answered questions re BX.US a few times before, so I'll give it a shot. Your last comments re Blackstone were quite favorable, but the stock has been falling and now it is down 30% from June high. I hold some (to the total of 3%) in my non-reg account, and I am thinking about averaging down and buying more (to add another 2%) after current sell-off. What's your opinion? Do you see it as a buy, hold, or sell at current prices/situation? You mentioned before that "it a decent alternative investment, but one that needs to be held throughout a cycle". How would it perform in the short-to-mid term with the US rates rising? - Thanks

Q: CBL has turned into a falling knife. Past commentary suggest that the company may go private. Is going private essentially a forced sale at depressed prices? More specifically, would it have the effect of locking-in current shareholders' losses, or is there any way shareholders can benefit from a post-private recovery? Is it fear of this event that is now driving the price down?
