Q: Hi,
I have approx $90k balance in US dollars in my US$ account. Additionally I have a number of unhedged Mawer Funds which have a significant exposure to US$. With the rising CAD$ I find that my account size is shrinking just due to US$ currency exposure.
I was thinking of buying several inter-listed Cdn Banks on the US side and then getting them transferred to my Cdn Acct to lessen my overall US$ exposure. Do you think this would be a prudent move or have you any other suggestions.
Thank you.

Q: I currently hold ZBK-BMO Equal Wt US Banks Unhedged and I am considering with the strength in CDN$ adding ZUB-BMO Equal Wt US Banks Hedged to my portfolio. I prefer to hold Cdn$ ETFs that invest in US companies rather than buying those companies directly in US$. Would appreciate your comments on holding both these ETFs as a method of having more US Bank exposure and balancing the currency movements?

Q: An ex-client of HomeCapital who has made a few posts on Twitter has been saying that Home Capital illegally over-charges customers in trouble. Something about a section 8. Could you look at the statement shared in this tweet and tell us what you think? It seems unbelievable that clients could have been over-charged by tens of thousands of dollars without this having surfaced in the news before now. Apparently management has not answered questions regarding this. Truely, this story is turning into a mystery novel. Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i,
I hold some Callidus (CBL) and I am inclined to keep holding and collecting the dividends while management works on growing the business and works out some kind privatization deal that they will find acceptable. I noticed though that my online broker recently updated its indication of the number of floating shares, reducing it from 12M to 9.24M. Aside from liquidity issues, are there any risks (for shareholders like me) associated with the share float becoming too small? Also, what is the extent of the short interest in the stock and, if indicated in percentage terms, is that a percentage of the issued shares or a percentage of the floating shares? Thanks.

Q: Hi. Thanks for your invaluable advice. Can you indicate what the financial implications are of Callidus Capital's announcement today that they are considering establishing a private fund? It seems to indicate that Callidus is having difficulties finding a buyer. Would you recommend continuing to hold this stock or is it time to consider alternatives?

Q: I am puzzled about the fact that some mortgage lenders offer as low as 1.9 to 2.1% mortgage rates. Why would someone lend money as such a low rate, when you can get more (and garanteed) investing it with a CDIC backed GIC. If the amount is huge and not covered by a set of CDIC accounts, such a lender could get the same yield from a short-term bond ETF like ZCS. My theory is that those lenders hope that a small percentage of their borrowers fail to carry the mortgage, in which case, they somehow profit from re-possessing a house that has appreciated in price. If that is not something a lender can do, what am I missing? Thank you.

Q: Good day, I understand (from your responses to other questions) that you like EFN, and, looking back a few months ago, it was that you held in your model portfolio (and switched out of it just before it dropped somewhat significantly), my question is this, at what price will you find it compelling value to add back into your portfolio? Thanks.
