Q: Your thoughts on Citi and the US banks in particular. I have a 1/2 position in the low 70s. Wondering if I should add or just move on. I also own BAC.

Q: Peter; Could a Canadian Bank and/or a US financial institution buy MFC? Is there any legislation prohibiting it? Thanks. Rod
Q: I owned efn in the past but sold last year as a tax loss. is it time to repurchase this stock. thanks bill
Q: I recently asked a question about a substitute for SLF for tax selling purposes. I was wondering what you might think about a US substitute for slf? I know there is no dividend tax benefit. But, I will be rebuying whatever I buy in a RIF, therefore no tax consequences.
thanks for the great service as always

Q: Hi there: What is the different between these 2 stocks? They have an attractive yield of around 6% , with a P/E <10, P/B < 1, and P/S < 1. Would that make this a bargain then, or is there something I overlook. Thank you.
Q: I currently own ECN for a total weight of 5.3 % , I am thinking to make it a 3.5% weight and put the cash into VB. ECN is held in non rrsp account so I would be paying taxes on capital gains or just keep ECN as the momentum is good at the moment and analyst are increasing their target prices. At what weight would you sell some? I already own SLF and BNS for financial sector.
Thanks
Dolores

Q: My son is looking to add a financial company to his TFSA. He is 21 years old so has a long investment horizon. Which do you like better GSY or ECN? His only financial holding is BNS which he holds outside his TFSA.
Q: I've owned CXI for awhile and has done nothing. I am slightly down...should I move on or be patient?
Q: I would appreciate your assessment of these two holdings. For CYB, would you be able to get some information on the global investment portfolio, in addition to your comments? The fund has done well over time, except recently.
Thanks, as always!
Thanks, as always!
Q: I bought Fiera some time ago and am at a loss, but, do appreciate the dividend being paid. I am a senior, very conservative investor and a "buy and hold" investor to a serious fault. Please advise if the dividend is sustainable. Should this be sold or can I buy more to bring my cost down? I know you are not a fan of averaging down. Please suggest other stocks that provide a good dividend and have a favourable outlook.
Thank you for your great service.

Q: I have noticed a lot of press about fund managers shorting Canadian banks. I have TD, Royal and BNS. Is this a time to unload them?
Q: Good afternoon 5i,
On Dec 5 Terry asked this question:
Which company would you recommend for a proxy to SLF tax loss selling? IAG or GWO? I dont like MFC because they cut their dividend in 2008.
Thanks
I don't mind mfc that much and besides, I will only be holding it for a month. Can I get your updated view on what would be a good placeholder for Slf, no conditions of any kind applied?
thanks

Hi: I am concerned about deteriorating trade relations between Canada and China. Could you please indicate which of the big 6 Canadian banks and big 3 Insurance have business in China and what percent of their entire business is located there.
Thank you.......... Paul K

Q: Chesswood has done me well since the Dec correction. Are you aware of any reasons for this.
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and team,
In a recent post in Stock Chase, Barry Schwartz was commenting on MFC and gave it a "Don't Buy" rating, for reasons similar to 5i's. He then goes on to say that "he avoids this sector".
Is there a compelling reason to own SLF (or any other insurer) in the Financial Sector?
Our sector holdings across all accounts are BNS at 2%, GSY at 3.8%, SLF at 2%, TD at 6%, and TRI at 0.9%.
Should we 'stay the course' and keep things as they are, or should changes be made?
As always, I really value your advice.

Q: Hi 5i
I would like your opinion on BAM.A
Risk level? scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best.
What sector would you class this stock under?
Is this a stock I can buy and forget?
Is this stock at a good buy point today?
Thanks

Q: Can you please rate these four banks in terms of growth and least affected by a downturn.

Q: Hi 5i team,
Following the release of their most recent quarterly results, and their share price drop (a couple of bucks), is CXI still a long term “kind of boring” buy?
Eps growth seems to take longer to happen then expected at first. Following yesterday’s conference call, do you find management’s narrative still credible regarding expenses control, being finished increasing fixed costs (hiring and systems), several sources of growth strategy (catalysts)?
Aside from liquidity, which does not bother me since my time horizon is fairly long (sell at the time management will sell the company), do you have any additional concerns (consumers going electronic/plastic faster than expected?)?
Thank you for your collaboration,
Eric
