Q: Based on what I see from GlobeInvestor GS appears to have cut their dividend from last year to this: $1.35 per share versus $1.00 per share. Is that true and why did they cut? Also, with the current high yield would you recommend a buy now for income? I am also thinking that at the current stock price the company may attract a buyer.

Q: If things get worse between China and Canada do you think it will hurt SLF and MFC thanks for your input Barry
Q: Hi, I’m about even on ecn 1.5% and would like to switch to higher dividend paying stock 3%+ with a little growth.
For 2 years it has done little unless you were lucky and sold at the high.
Would you stick with the banks? I have TD 2.5% and FSZ 1.5%.
Thanks

Q: I have been analyzing my holdings through this recent rally and most have performed well , some like COV and HMMJ spectacularly well. VB and CRH are two which are not participating. I know you are not fans of CRH. Why is VB not participating ? While it is a short term view, surely sentiment must have an effect. Even GUD is up lately.

Q: Hi 5i,
I'm looking to increase my current Financial Sector weighting from 5 to 15%. I currently hold BNS @ 2.2%, SLF @ 1.5%, and GSY @ 1.3%. What would you add too and/or too a new position? I don't like to have more than 5-6% of one holding, of course this would be risk adjusted down according to market cap/safety.
Last part, on sector weightings. I follow your general recommendation and I noticed you changed the following from Oct'18 to Jan'19 as follows:
Consumer disc. 10 up to 15,
Consumer staples 10 down to 5,
InfoTech 20 down to 15, and
Utilities 5 up to 10.
Can you add some commentary behind these sector weight changes?
Thanks, Chris.

Q: I hold both these U.S. banks which I bought back when "everybody needed to hold a US bank" which was only several months ago but seems like ancient history. This morning BBT was downgraded from a buy to underperform. Can I get your opinion on whether to continue to hold or take my losses and dump them.
Thanks, Carl

Q: I recently purchased FTN .to (Financial Split Shares Corp) as the NAV dropped below $15.00, the dividend was cancelled, and the share price dropped to $3.50 The NAV was $14.45 at Dec 31. Since Jan 2 the US and Canadian bank stocks have started a bit of a recovery and it seems like it wont take too much to regain the $15.00 NAV and dividend reinstatement.
What is your outlook for Canadian and US banks for the coming year and am I treading on thin ice here?? I know you aren't a particular fan of split shares, but it seems like there would be some nice capital gains and dividend if the NAV does go back over $15.
Thank you so much for your valued opinion.
