Q: I serendipitously sold my BNS before the pandemic and have been slowly buying it back as it remains low compared to historical levels. I intend to go a little overweight as the dividend and value in the stock seems to me to be quite attractive, if you consider this a long term hold. If I retire in 10 years, this seems to me to be a great purchase now and that I will look back at myself thankfully for making this purchase now.
Do I need to be looking at this differently? I know there BNS faces risk in Central America but it otherwise seems like a good buy now.
Q: I know you've said in the past that one could replicate FIE relatively easy by owning say 3-4 bank stocks and an insurance company - but I don't think you could get the same yield as FIE, which is close to 8%. Even after subtracting the MER, I don't think you can match the yield (which is somewhat confusing to me).
Can you? If not, would you see a benefit in owning FIE?
Q: These are all down about 40% from their recent highs. Do you have any concerns with the sector in general? Which two would you pick for bounce back potential?
Q: Do you feel there is a need to go into the US to get additional financial exposure, into something like GS or JPM? Or would RY be sufficiently diversified given its size, and international diversification.
Q: My understanding is that higher interest rates would help ECN (please correct me if I'm wrong). If so, I'm trying to understand why it has rebounded as much as it has since March. Can you comment?
Q: Peter, can you shed any light on the dramatic price action following MOGO's financial release. It shot up from 1.25 to 3.45 following the release (175%+) and has now settled back to around 1.70 as I write this. The trader in me would expect some gap filling here, but I have no idea why the stock spiked as sharply as it did.
High trading volume today and it's been treading water since March with lower highs and lower lows for the past month. Any explanation for the high volume and what do you think about TD moving forward?
Q: Will comercial real estate and in particular mall real estate keep Brookfield in the penalty box for the forseeable future. This name does not respond when the markets are buoyant ...but has. No problem falling with the general mkt.Are there better sectors to be deployed in until we get some Covid clarity?
