Q: Have been underweight financials for a while. To deploy a bit of cash was thinking of three options: add to BNS or start a position in either GWO or WFC. Am partial to dividends with some growth. Your recommendation please.

Q: These firms are my top four holdings. Any concerns as we move to a bit more defensive portfolio?
Historically, is their a sector that is the "canary in the mine" that would be a sign of a bear market?

Q: I hold a number of shares of C.I.Financial (CIX) purchased many years ago -what is your opinion of the company - is it an add, hold or sell ?
I am also still holding Cineplex (CGX) do you see any prospects for this company's shares increasing in the near future or should I sell?
Thanks for your reply

Q: EFN is on the verge (again) of breaking through $10 resistance established back in the fall of 2017 (it also peaked around $10.25 two months ago). If the breakthrough is sustained, there should not be much to stop it running back up to the $12+ range. Would you continue to hold for another 3 - 6 months to see if this plays out? Aside from technicals, is the company continuing to make progress in its restructuring?

Q: What is 5i thoughts of Caldwell Partners' all-time record-breaking quarterly results. It seems that they have recovered nicely from a slow start to this fiscal-year. They also suggest in their outlook that fiscal Q4 could be just as strong (or stronger) than Q3 which could lead to a record-breaking year for the Company. If anything the results and outlook is great bell-weather indicator of the strength of US economy for which a large portion Caldwell's revenues are generated from.

Q: Open Text has apparently entered into recent deals with Google and Mastercard. Are these probably already baked into the price or would you still anticipate good growth?
Regarding FSZ can you clarify the scary PE? Why is it still considered a safe income stock? Many thanks.

Q: I bought FSZ in early May looking for a lower risk financial company to add to my portfolio of BAM, TD, BNS, SLF, GSY.
FSZ is now down 10% since purchase and still slowly dropping. Would you suggest I sell and move on and add to one of my other financials or add something else, or hold on to FSZ. If another financial, what would you suggest.
I am still looking for a lower risk financial equity holding.

Q: I have FAH and FIH in a long term RRSP. I believe in the long term growth of these regions and I’m cautiously hopeful Mr Watsa and team are making sound PE investments to try to benefit from regional growth. But I find them tricky to assess because of the fees and the multi-asset PE structure. Can you provide your view on the financial performance of these companies? I would also appreciate your thoughts on whether you’d consider topping up a relatively small position. Please deduct two questions and deal with each separately. Thanks!

Q: Hi :
I noticed that CM is selling at low P/E (9.2) and analysts are very pessimistic with 12 on "on hold". I do not like CIBC and most of the time I own TD and NA. , but, sometimes being contrarian could be the right approach by considering the regression to the mean effect. I am very low on banks and financials now because I feel we are at the end of the cycle and banks have betas that are a bit high for me. Investment horizon is 5 years at least. Would you buy now ?, or wait until it feels like it bottoms ?, what criteria would you use to get in ?.
thanks
