Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am fairly new to DIY investing and 5i. Have really appreciated the knowledge I am accumulating from your subscription. I am overweight in financials and would like to reduce. Currently own MKP (7%) and AI (2%). Could you give me your thoughts on these companies and rank them in order of “dividend safety/growth”? Thank you.

Q: I own all three in my RRSP in equal position. Outside of my RRSP, I have large exposure to the US markets (>50%).

I'm thinking on consolidating banks by selling RY & TD to buy BNS. BNS is up from its previous lows but looks to be trading at reasonable multiplies.

Thoughts?

Q: In your view, which will be more profitable (growth +dividend) in 2021: BEP or GSY? Seriously overweight now in BEP and wanting to redirect the surplus to GSY, but BEP just keeps going up. (Not a bad problem to have.) Advice regarding timing of such a switch would also be appreciated. Thank you.

Q: Hennessy Advisors, Inc (HNNA on NASDAQ)

I've been watching this one for more than a year. Some of its fundamentals look consistently good. But the longer I watch it, the more I feel it's a value trap. Your thoughts? (Also, it doesn't seem to be in your database.)

Best wishes for the new year.

Marc.

Q: I am still very curious about QBTC.U and how exactly they invest capital. I haven’t been able to find out much about it. Is BITCOIN the only asset the fund has? Do they trade bitcoin to gain value or is the value directly tied to the price of bitcoin? If they are holding bitcoin as a static asset, why would the value of the fund drop when they issue new shares if that new capital goes directly into additional bitcoin coins?

Q: Three or four years ago I bought Blackstone as my vehicle for diversification into the area of private equity. I mainly chose it over the others in this area because of the yield it offered.
When we descended into Covid hell last spring I viewed it as a time of opportunity for companies like Blackstone, picking off struggling companies or providing funding. Others might include BAM and Berkshire Hathaway.
Since then I've noticed Blackstone making multiple news announcements of purchases they've made.
What's your opinion here? Am I being biased by my own opinion or do you also think the company is setting up a bright future?
