SVB Financial Group (SIVB)

SVB Financial Group Depositary Shs each representing a 1/40th interest in a share of 5.25% Fixed-Rate Non-Cumulative Perpetual Preferred Stock Series A (SIVBP)
Q: Is SIVBP just a way to be SIVB shares in small amounts . i.e. ( 1 Sivbp share = 1/40 of ! SIVB share).
Is this a safe way to buy smaller amounts of SIVB ?
I don't know if this is a common way to do it.
Thank you

Q: Hi 5i Team - I have shares of ECN in both my non-registered and TFSA accounts. Could you tell me if the special dividend of $7.50 will be treated by Revenue Canada as a regular dividend by a Canadian corporation. If so then there will be a percentage added to the amount of dividend for total income purposes which could affect my marginal tax rate. Is it better then to move the non-registered shares into my TFSA (in spite of the dividend tax credit) which will trigger a capital gains of 50% of the profit. Thanks as always for the great service!
Q: Please help me understand why Versabank has popped on the pricing of thier US public offering at $10US (12.80CAD). I would have thought it would trade close to the 12.80 price today but it has been trading at 13.50-15.00. Thanks Rob
Q: WISE Hi Peter - I realize this stock is outside of your market experience. But I'd greatly appreciate any information you could provide on the outlook for this UK listing? Do the financials appear that good that the stock has risen from 775 to 1120 since the IPO. Greatly appreciate your sound advice.
Q: I got into upstart about 5 weeks ago and it has since increased 78%. Is this a hot potato where I should take at least some (taxable) profits? It's pushing 6% of my equity. I guess my real question is given the tear this has been on, would you be more skittish and pull the take profits button here earlier than normal. Thanks.
Q: What do you think about bank fees in Canada? I just feel like I am getting screwed paying $10.95/month at RBC when there are free chequing accounts online.
Do you see any upside to having a bank account with one of the major banks?

Q: whats the chances of returning to div. increases
Q: Once the unsettled state of the market suggested by today's gapping down on the DIA, QQQ and IWM (i.e. as of noon, at least) steadies, would you favour a purchase of NYCB as a steady source of $U.S. income or would you think that BNS:NYSE (for example) could be preferable (i.e. at least for a margin, hence, taxable account)?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Q: I have an interest in Circle (https://www.circle.com/en/) – expected to go public sometime before end of year.
I really like what they are doing. I have not invested in any cryptocurrencies before but believe that a stablecoin/this stablecoin is on the right track as they are working closely with regulators, are trying to be transparent….
1 – Your thoughts re this company are appreciated (if you have any background on this company).
2 – The IPO is being handled via a SPAC – with Concord Acquisition Corp. If I acquire stock in Concord (ticker symbol CND in the US) am I acquiring the equivalent of Circle ahead of its IPO? My understanding is that a SPAC can only acquire one company and if that is the case, is it the same as acquiring Circle (ahead of its IPO)?
Thank You.

Q: Crypto currency seems on the rise. Good short article today in Barron's. This is a real threat to visa and mastercard business models. I would not want to own those stocks. On the other hand, Versa bank (vb) should benefit and they are about to get us broker coverage with their pending Nasdaq listing. It could see a huge increase in share price. Gosh the company even makes good money.
Q: My insurance company of many years, economical insurance, is demutualizing and going to IPO under the name Definity Financial Corporation. They are offering me between $3,300 and $4,400 or shares if I do nothing. Would you perhaps have an opinion as to which option to take?
Q: How the new world-wide trend of BNPL could affect the banking system.
Thank-you

Q: Peter; Could the China debt problem affect MFC’s investment ? Thanks. Rod

Nuvei Corporation Subordinate Voting Shares (NVEI)

Affirm Holdings Inc. (AFRM)
Q: While I am partial to PYPL, I would like a second opinion from you on these fintechs. Please rank them as the most suitable one for a buy and hold for a long term in a RESP account. Thanks.
Q: I was just checking out the new iPhone 13 and saw that they use Affirm for buy now, pay later. I do own GSY, is there an advantage to also owning affirm? What do you think about buying it after the latest run-up? If buying, is it overinflated and is it better to wait for it to settle down? Thanks!
Q: With the big banks flush with cash and rumours that they are looking at acquiring wealth mgt or fintech companies, could you name a few companies are your radar that would make a good fit? Something like goeasy or a wealth management company. Do you think they would be in a position to buy something like square or PayPal? I don’t think they would be interested in small fin tech companies like mogo?
Q: Hipo seems like quite the turnaround story from the perspective of their volatile stock price. Are they “for real” or is it too early to tell?
Q: Thank for the answer yesterday and appreciated Garth’s Q&A.
Just to make sure I am not entirely mistaken, but at $3.00 ps there would (after sale) $2.00 ps in cash?
Of course the caveat on the transaction, but do you know how long Truist Bank has had a friendly relationship with ECN?
TIA
