Q: I was just checking out the new iPhone 13 and saw that they use Affirm for buy now, pay later. I do own GSY, is there an advantage to also owning affirm? What do you think about buying it after the latest run-up? If buying, is it overinflated and is it better to wait for it to settle down? Thanks!

Investment Q&A
Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.
Q: With the big banks flush with cash and rumours that they are looking at acquiring wealth mgt or fintech companies, could you name a few companies are your radar that would make a good fit? Something like goeasy or a wealth management company. Do you think they would be in a position to buy something like square or PayPal? I don’t think they would be interested in small fin tech companies like mogo?
Q: Hipo seems like quite the turnaround story from the perspective of their volatile stock price. Are they “for real” or is it too early to tell?
Q: Thank for the answer yesterday and appreciated Garth’s Q&A.
Just to make sure I am not entirely mistaken, but at $3.00 ps there would (after sale) $2.00 ps in cash?
Of course the caveat on the transaction, but do you know how long Truist Bank has had a friendly relationship with ECN?
TIA

Q: Which of the two banks offers a better opportunity for growth? Already have a full position in TD.
Thank you for all that you have done to help with my financial education.

Q: What is your opinion of Power Corp ?
Q: Good Morning, Just wondering if you think either of these fintechs are still worth investing in at this time, considering the substantial run ups on both. If so, which would you lean towards, as PKK moves to the Nasdaq. Thanks.
Q: In Dan's comment on Aug.13/21 he quotes some earnings and growth numbers that show the remaining part of ECN have both value and some pretty good growth numbers { Triad 72.5% and KG 30.6% }.... First could you confirm Dan's numbers ? And then take a stab at an estimated share price based on the remaining company and what you think of management, valuation, future growth, and whatever else you deem prudent in making such an evaluation ?
And second I realize 5I doesn't like giving weighting advice so I'll explain my philosophy on it. With a company like ECN a mid cap about to become a small cap I would normally be around 1.5% .... However with the downside limited to $2.50 a share and a belief that the remaining company doesn't face that much of a downside I am willing to go 2.5% to 3% ..... So that is what I did .... But after purchase I thought " Wait a minute. After my return in cash I took less than a 1% position . " How does 5I recommend I approach the situation with my goals in mind ?

- 3iQ Bitcoin ETF (BTCQ.U)
- Purpose Ether ETF (ETHH.B)
Q: I am with TD and wanted to further explore crypto currencies.
I am looking at Bitcoin, Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), Stellar (CRYPTO:XLM) and Cardano (CRYPTO:ADA.
I am not sure, but I could buy Bitcoin with BTCC.B?
Ethereum with ETHH.B?
And I would have to buy Stellar and Cardano with Coinbase, or does TD or Weatlhsimple do this?
Or is there an ETF for Stellar and Cardano or is there an ETF for a group of newer coins?
Really confused Boomer.

Q: Canadian Vs U.S. Banks.
Are the banks in both countries taxed differently, if so, please explain.

Q: Yet another Q on ECN. Sorry. Was listening again to Hudson's interview on BNN on Aug. 11. In it Steve mentioned that he expects cash flow to grow to 120mil. a year in (relatively) short order. I was just wondering how that would look on a company that will trade (let us say) for $3.00 a share? I am imagining that there are few PF managers who could own ECN as it grew but soon won't be able to because of size and when I can hope for them to return?
TIA

Q: Hi folks. El Salvador has accepted Bitcoin I believe and even given their citizens some of the currency. Why have they taken this stance? A safeguard against the inflation in their fiat currency? Do you think other countries will follow suite?
Has this changed anything with the outlook on Bitcoin?
Thank you and good day.

Q: looking for a fintech growth company with a 1-2 yr investment horizon. Could you pls comment on each.
- Royal Bank of Canada (RY)
- Toronto-Dominion Bank (The) (TD)
- Bank of Nova Scotia (The) (BNS)
- Bank of Montreal (BMO)
- Manulife Financial Corporation (MFC)
- Canadian Imperial Bank Of Commerce (CM)
Q: Retired, dividend-income investor who normally holds for the long term. I own a half position in Manulife and am down roughly 7%, including dividends. My long term plan was to sell MFC and rebuy a second Canadian Bank (I already have a full position in Royal Bank).
I have compared the various metrics (P/BV, P/CF, P/S, ROE, technicals, analysts estimates, etc.) for the above mentioned banks as well as against MFC.
Looking at the banks in isolation and already with a full position in RY, I've narrowed it down to either BNS (International exposure and current laggard due to Covid) or TD (more US exposure and 1 year laggard). Of the banks that I do not own, please rank them in order of the best total return over a sufficient period of time for Covid to have subsided (1-2 more years for improved vaccination coverage?). Do you agree with my rationale?
If you include MFC into the bank comparisons, where would you place MFC in the rankings? I have read to buy the banks when their P/E is < 11.0 and buy the insurance companies when their P/BV < 1.0. This would lead me to buy TD (P/E of 9.7) or keep MFC (P/BV of 1.0).
So...keep MFC versus take the loss in MFC and then buy BNS or TD? Your thoughts?
MFC is held in a taxable account and I have no problem taking a loss.
Thanks for your help....Steve

Q: HI
Wondering about coinbase and its future. Bought in when it went public and it is down but slowly climbing. What do you think of this company going forward.

Q: I know that ranking banks often is like picking shades of the same colour. At this point in time do you feel there is any "clear" division amongst any of the banks for investing purposes? Can you give your order of preference and the magnitude of the gap between each choice.
Thanks,
Terry

Q: Given the prevalence of most major retailers aligning themselves with pay-now, pay-later providers do you see this as having a negative impact on Goeasy's competitive position in their marketplace?
