Q: HXS has has a management fee of .10 but as they state this does not include a swap fee of approximately 30 bps. Is the actual management fee .40? Is the swap fee related to the total return nature of this ETF? I’m looking for an S&P ETF to hold in my TFSA and HXS seems like a great option as I wouldn’t be subject to withholding taxes. Do you feel HXS is a better choice then VFV for a 10+ year hold inside a TFSA due to the savings on withholding taxes?

Q: It looks like, regardless of oil price movements or direction of the market, XEG only goes down. I am currently down 15% on XEG and wondering if there is any hope for oil sector in Canada? Would you keep this ETF/sector for 1-3 years timeframe, or get rid of oil sector entirely and relocate money to some other sectors?

Q: Dear 5i team.
As I read through the recent Q's on the merits of owning laddered bond funds vs long bond funds (CLF/CBO vs XBB/XLB) couple of f/ups for you. Assuming rates have peaked, and downward is the consensus:
1) What is the upside for CLF vs XLB for example. How much of a move in bond prices would you estimate for each 50 BP move? (can you do same exercise assuming rates move higher?)
2) Since you like both XBB/XLB for long bond exposure, can both be owned, or should one be sufficient?
Many thanks for your help to understand the risk/reward here.

Q: Can you explain the product from Purpose ETF (ticker APLY) in the link below. Seems to be an ETF which owns Apple shares and somehow gives you yield with a call strategy as you hold. What is downside risk ? What is upside ?
Does anyone just hold shares anymore ? The financial wizardry with these ETFs seems like it will all blow up at some point just like CDOs in 2009.

Q: Given the Jan. 31 regulatory changes, is there any risk to buying cash, psa, etc. now as opposed to later? Thanks.

Q: Good morning 5i;
I do not often see questions/comments regarding preferred shares; of which I confess I understand very little. Do you have a few good resource recommendations where one could educate themselves on these investment vehicles?
I would also be interested to know if there are any (understanding there's thousands of possibilities) preferred shares or preferred share ETF's you would suggest could be examined more closely for investment.
Thanks very much!

Q: Hi,
I'd like to follow-up on my last question, from Jan. 15th, which wasn't completely answered.
I also asked for recommended US$ Bond ETFs.
Thanks,

Q: Greetings 5i,
This ETF was mentioned in an earlier question today. I can't find 'MAGS'. Is there a typo?
Also, are there alternative ETFs that hold the 'magnificent seven' that have been around for longer?
Thanks as always

Q: Hello 5i,
Mid 60's couple in early retirement is asking for Bitcoin advice. We purchased Bitcoin in 2020 and sold the ETF when Bitcoin hit $63k usd. Since then we have missed two strike points to get back into the game as a 1/2 position.
Would you buy a Bitcoin ETF today or wait a few days to see if prices settle in? If one is to hold for the ETF for10 years would you purchase a CAD or USD ETF?
Thank you
D&J

Q: Good morning,
I own a substantial amount of MAW 108 in my Non Registered, TFSA and RRSP accounts.
After reviewing the numerous questions relating to VFV ETF and closely examining the annual performance of MAW 108 over the last 15 years, it is clear to me that VFV ETF has performed much better on the whole over a long period and that VFV or HXS would have been a better choice .
Given that there would be substantial capital gains tax incurred by replacing MAW 108 with VFV ETF or HXS ETF in my Non Registered account and therefore not an appealing option, what are your thoughts on:
Q1. Replacing MAW 108 with VFV or HXS in my TFSA and RRSP accounts;
Q2. Are there any withholding tax considerations in holding VFV or HXS in my TFSA and RRSP accounts?
Q3, Is VFV your preferred recommendation over HXS ETF, ZSP ETF, XUS ETF for holdings in a TFSA and RRSP account?
Thank you and I will await your usual sage and valuable advice.

What is your view on the banking sector. Do you see a full recovery or is it going to take a while? Should I hold or cut back?

- AbbVie Inc. (ABBV)
- Eli Lilly and Company (LLY)
- iShares Global Healthcare Index ETF (CAD-Hedged) (XHC)
- Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT)
Q: I currently own XHC.
I see that VHT has a lot lower MER. Does it make sense to make a switch?
I assume VHT is more North America while XHC is global?
Also have about 4% in ABBV in an Registered Account with a 52% return. (thank your;)
Would it make sense to cut this down to 2% and add LLY?
LLY has had quite a run the last couple of years and that can be scary. Does LLY have a good runway?
Thanks.

Q: Good afternoon all;
I have a developing opinion (still sorting it out) that it may be time to increase overseas holdings; I have underrepresented them significantly in the past 5 years. I am particularly looking at the African and SE Asian (ex China) economies. While I understand these may not be questions fully in your wheelhouse, your views would be appreciated.
- Do you concur that, subject to Black Swan events, we could expect overseas economies to outperform Canada in the coming few years?
- What geographic areas would you put focus on?
- Do you have 2 or 3 ETF's that may suit such a strategy? DGS is one that has peaked my curiosity.
Thanks for your assistance as always.
