Q: I'd appreciate your thoughts on this ETF. I've owned for a while now, and take comfort in the fact that many of its holdings are positively commented upon by 5i. That and the fact that it may offer downside protection in a market correction.

I thought other members may appreciate knowing this exists, and that some of its holdings include:
BCE; ATD.B; Fairfax; Constellation Software, Metro, Loblaw, Metro, CI Financial, etc, etc.

In fact it might be hard to find a holding within that 5i does not like?

Best,

Cam.

Q: Can you please give me advice on how to purchase us stocks in the most cost efficient manner.

I do not have very much in consumer staples and would look toward the US side to diversify.

I would consider purchasing proctor and gamble for example and 1000 shares would be > 80 000 $ US.

I have the funds in canadian dollars. I presently self manage my portfolio through BMO investor line.

how would you recommend proceeding with such a purchase in the most cost / fee efficient manner.

would you recommend an ETF in the consumer staples sector instead ?

thank you

Ernie

Q: Thanks for your comments on alternative investments. I would like to know which of PMM or PHE (hedged or not hedged) you would recommend or would I just stay the course with conventional holdings? I would be investing 20K between our two TFSA accounts. The contents are currently heavenly weighted towards income.
Thanks to all

Q: I have Sprott Physical Silver Trust units which I bought at about $14 a unit quite a few years back. I now realize I should have sold them long ago, but I didn't.
I'm hoping Silver will eventually increase in price so I won't be stuck with a huge loss.
Today Sprott made an announcement of a hostile bid for metal trust.
I have a feeling this may not be good for PHS.U unit holders, can you comment on this deal?

If there's any conflict involved and can't comment, I'll understand.

Thanks,
Paul

Q: What are the market conditions besides interest rate that would make a 1-5 yr.laddered bond instrument attractive? Or is it a secular rotation from stocks to bonds that is the only other factor?

Q: Good afternoon:
Do you still feel that XSH is a secure etf in which to park spare cash and get a 3.2% yield?

Thanks,

Q: Just wanted to make sure I am thinking straight re hedging principles related to the U.S. dollar denominated securities. One option is to buy ETFs that are hedged. The other way is to buy U.S. denominated securities in U.S. dollars and then some unhedged ETFs that invest in U.S. dollar securities , but invest with Canadian dollars.

Thank you.

Paul

Q: I believe your last comment about VRE was in August, 2013, at which time you preferred XRE. Now, looking at these two ETF, which one would you prefer. VRE only pays a 2.1% distribution compared to XRE's 4.7% but over the past two years VRE's value has risen nearly 3x that of XRE's. I am curious why VRE pays such a low distribution when most of its holdings are paying >4%. Is VRE really doing so much better than XRE or am I just mis-interpreting the numbers.

Q: I hold these etf's strictly for income purposes. Could you give your thoughts on XHY and CHB and the effect that rising interest rates in the USA could have on them.

Q: Hi All: It is time I added some insurance to my portfolio. I am interested in adding to my gold holdings, I hold Goldcorp now and I would like to add a gold ETF. In the past I have held CGL. I would prefer a bullion stock. What do you think of this idea? Please suggest a couple of ETFs or stocks that would be your top choice. Thank you again for your help. You are the best ever!!

Q: Hello,

Instead of holding ishares russell from the growth portfolio would switching it out for vce make sense? Or will there be too much correlation? The reason why i'm asking is that I already own a us etf VTI(which is my largest allocation) and don't want to add more to my US allocation.

Thanks.

Q: Can IWO be held inside a TFSA since it consists of american stocks. Is there a 15% claw back on the dividend. Would it really be considered a growth name since it consists of many companies. Thank You for the great service.
