Q: In our grand-daughters' trust accounts, they each have exposure to banks, insurance, pipeline, energy E&P, utility, and REITs. There is available cash in the accts to open a new position. Would you add to a present sector or start a new one (i.e. materials, industrial, health care, etc) If starting a new sector, which looks the most promising at present and could you recommend 2 or 3 dividend paying ETFs in the sector ( ideally over 3%). Looking at a 5-7 years time frame. Thanks so much for a great website and much valued advice. don

Q: Hi 5i:
For a first time investor with $25,000 to deploy and this is their only investments. What would your opinion be on the above etfs basically equally split between them. Time frame is long term and they would be in a TFSA.
Additional future investments would then be in individual stocks.
Thanks so much.

Q: Hi team,
Looking to invest in the Japanese stock market through an ETF with good growth prospects but they all seem to be at their 52 weeks high. Is the timing good ? And what do you think of Xtrackers MSCI Japan Hedged Equity ETF (dbjp-n), WisdomTree Japan Hedged SmallCap Equity Fund (dxjs-n) or any better idea ?

Thanks a million for your help and outstanding new site,

Jacques

Q: I’m assuming that the holdings of PMIF are identical to PMO005, which are 48% securitized; 38% government; 22% corporate; 13% other.

Question 1: what is meant by ‘securitized’? Is that a good thing in a bond fund?

I’ve spent a day researching C$ bond ETFs and the more I research, the more confused I become.

Question 2: Is PMIF about as good as any other bond ETF out there?
I’m not too concerned about fees or yield, as what I’m looking for is low volatility, preservation of capital, with a reasonable total return.

Thanks.

Q: Sharesight. This is exactly what you should implement into your services!!!!! It is such a perfect add on, that we will pay for, in my humble opinion. I am sure that the figures are not complete thru my discount broker or the port tracker that I use.
Anyhow, I would appreciate your opinion on it as I am contemplating it because accuracy is all we have to work from.
Also I am considering all ETF's thru Vanguard although I hold with I shares, Purpose and a couple of others. I appreciate your opinion .
IF 2 CREDITS fine.

Q: Morning, New website looks good! I am looking to improve a family members TFSA which was setup by a bank. They put her into some lame and expensive mutual funds, no surprise. Am thinking about XWD and ZLB as replacements, with the goal being balance as well as capital appreciation. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Lavern
