Q: Hello friends,

I'm interested in MLPA:US but since the ETF is a holder of mostly US LPs, I'm not sure if the new taxation and selling rules for US LPs will apply to it as well. What would be the implications of holding it in a registered or margin account aside from the normal Canadian taxation rules? Hoping you can shed some light on this.

Many thanks!

Q: Can I get your opinion on mortgage backed securities (US) for one’s income portfolio? Do these increase in value as interest rates decrease similar to bonds? Thanks.

Q: What are my best options for short term to park cash while gaining interest in a registered account, during BNN market call yesterday there was a discussion on a ETF [starting with P?] where interest is calculated daily until you hold the security.

Q: Hello, I bought ZQQ on 25 January 2021 for CDN $96.79/share. Its price on 26 April 24 was $27.73/share which is 28% gain. My understanding is ZQQ owns QQQ and is CDN $ hedged. QQQ had gain of 42% in US$ for the same period. Exchange rate (US$ to CDN$) for the same period had 7.6% gain. I expected ZQQ return to be roughly QQQ gain minus gain due to change in exchange rate (because it is hedged) which would be 42% - 7.6% = 34.4%. Why ZQQ return is 28% and not close to 34%.

My broker statement shows ZQQ declared dividends and shows DRIP for the same amount as dividend. There was no change in Cash balance and no change in ZQQ shares. What happened to the dividend and DRIP? Broker statement shows cost base of ZQQ went up by the same amount as dividend. This is in my TFSA. Can you please explain what is going on here. Thanks.

Q: I did increase lately the % of utilities ( stocks+ETF) in my portfolios ( up to 38%) , since 1) the entry price seems ok ,2) utilities should maintain long term dividends for revenue ,3) they should resist more than other sectors in case of bear or volatile markets,4) still have some capital appréciation potential. What is your point of vue ? many thanks..

Q: CPSM is a new etf that "guarantees" 100% capital protection if purchased on May 1 and held for one year with a limit on upside tied to the S&P 500 of slightly over 9% even if that index climbs higher than that over the next year following purchase. Any gain on sale is capital gain if there is appreciation. There is no real guarantee but this company has experience using options to protect the downside and I see this as a reasonable candidate to reduce downside risk by forgoing some potential upside and could be a piece of my portfolio. I'd like your cautions which are expected but also if held longer than one year is there continuing potential benefit and downside protection such that it may make sense to hold for a period of years and delay any capital gains reckoning for tax purposes or is any of the fund's promise lost after the one year hold so that sale at that juncture makes sense. Appreciate your diagnosis on this one.
