Q: I was looking at this ETF for income purposes only. It is up 11% for the year so far. Can you please comment on the appropriateness of using this ETF for income only purposes?

Q: Although I currently hold VYM and VIG in my RRSP, SCHD has been on my radar for a few years and would appreciate your thoughts on adding this particular US$ ETF in my US$ Non Registered account. More specifically,
Q1. Would the withholding tax be eligible for the foreign tax credit when filing my tax return,
Q2. Would the US dividends be taxed as income, and
Q3. Of the three ETFs mentioned above, which one would you recommend for a US$ Non Registered account and your reason for the recommendation.

Q: I hold Eric's Energy Fund (NPP314) in my TFSA and have averaged down multiple times in the past. I understood I was probably catching a falling knife, but I believed in his expertise and was also building a position. Now I am up roughly 20% and believe there is more room for his Fund to run. NPP314 represents about 40% of my energy exposure. Most of the balance is held within my ETF exposures (CDZ, ZWC, etc.).

With the recent creation of Eric's ETF (NNRG), what do you recommend? Should I wait until the ETF has been around for a while (like you recommend for other new ETFs) or should I just switch now? What are the Pros vs Cons (aside from the 2.5% vs 1.5% fee that I see in the May 18/21 question)? Will the holdings be identical? Could you please add NNRG to your data base...thanks.

Q: I just upgraded to portfolio analytics and one of the suggested is upping my US market exposure plus adding to Healthcare and Industrials. I was looking at the XGI, ZUH, HHL to do this but am open to other suggestions.

Q: I am looking for a US etf with long term growth. This in order to balance out the over-weighted Canadian portfolio of blue chip dividend stocks. This investment is long term, no short term plans for this allocation and do not want dividends for tax efficiency. This question applies to both RRSP and non registered accounts. Could you provide me with 3 suggestions please.

Q: Good morning,

I am considering increasing my international exposure as per portfolio analytics and am stumped between ZDI and PID. Both hold a lot of the same investments. In fact 31 of the ZDI stocks are the same as PID holdings are the same, although not in equal proportion (roughly 44% ZDI to 34% PID - mostly due to fact that the PID strategy is close to equal weight investments). My current positions in both funds are 5% and 3.75%. I am looking at increasing either or combining. I also have a 4.75 % position in QEF which I feel is sufficient since I am not yet convinces ESG is the way to go.

Can I have your thoughts on PID vs ZDI ? Thank you for your valuable input.

I am wondering how ETFs collect their fees. For example, I am attracted by PDC's dividend of $4.27%, but it has a relatively high MER of 0.56%. Should I deduct the MER from the dividend to get a more realistic value of the return I can expect from PDC?
