Q: We have money in a “high interest” saving account at 1.5 percent. With inflation growing, what alternatives would you suggest (mutual funds, ETFs) for funds sets aside for emergencies? Or, perhaps is the 1.5 percent fine given the nature of these savings(

Q: With more concern about an economic slow down or hopefully not, recession on the horizon, I have been thinking about being more defensive than I have been in the past.
So, I was wondering how well did the Low Volatility ETF's hold up during the big meltdown of 2020, and did they actually do the job that the name implies, and not go down as much as the rest of the TSX.
Would you be more inclined to just hold some XIU, or just ZLB, or both, along with 10-15 individual highest conviction stocks, and try to enjoy the next 6-12 months some what worry free.
Thanks

Q: Given your recent answer regarding CROX, I had a look at the sector and noticed big moves yesterday. Also many of these are very near lows for the year. My question is would you put money to work in the sector now? Do you have a few favourites and is there an ETF that emphasizes this retail/clothing part of consumer discretionary as opposed to something like XLY which emphasizes very different segments? Thank-you again.
Q: ZPR continues to slide. Can you explain why, given rising rates should be helping? Do you see it coming back or is it time to exit. Pref's always seems to be a burn. Thanks.
Q: Hi,
With interest rates going up, why isn't CPD also going up? I would have though the rate reset prefs would get better traction in a rising rate environment.
Thanks
Robert

Q: Does VDY ,BNS, AQN, dividend paying stocks have enough growth to support the price, in view of rising rates.
Would you move away (sell) dividend paying stocks as per above.

Q: Good Day to 5I team: With banks trending down I am down about 7% but still with a 4% dividend. With VRIF my core retirement income holding also in a downward trend am down about 5% with a 4% dividend. Would you consider one or the other a sell for tax loss and. Investing proceeds in a 1 year gic at 2.45% to take shelter from what may or may not transpire into a resession and redeploy funds when markets look better? Which do you feel has a better chance of revovery?
Q: over the past 5 years, I've noticed when QQQ takes a decent dip, it climbs hard after. Do you believe we have seen the worst of this dip? And if not, when would you feel comfortable entering?
Q: I am wondering about a rebound from the current level with XHY? Do you see it recovering from the loss this year and is it a good time to buy?
Q: Regarding XHY in the 5i Income Portfolio: Is XHY a hold or a buy at this time with a yield of about 4.90%? Is there any US withholding tax in an RRSP holding XHY?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: Do you see Canadian banks going much lower?
Q: How does one purchase Canadian real return government issue bonds and do you recommend them in this inflationary environment?
- BMO Equal Weight Banks Index ETF (ZEB)
- Global X Equal Weight Canadian Banks Index Corporate Class ETF (HEWB)
Q: Any issues I should be aware of in switching from ZEB to HEWB in a taxable account other than taxable capital gains on the sale of ZEB? I am trying to lower taxable income which is impacting OAS payments.
Q: I m 73 years old with God willing at least another 10 years left. My Lightspeed is down 70%,$11,000. leaving me with $4,530 in my TFSA. Can you see any timeline for a turn around or should I be sucking it up and putting it in something else? Was looking at LIFE-T as a safety measure but wondering if you have some other suggestions.

Q: Hello Team.. As interest rates climb my strategy is to slowly buy into bond funds (now in cash).. maybe ZAG or XSH. For example at 3.48 % for ZAG, that's a reasonable dividend and the rate hikes have barely begun. My question is -although the unit price of the fund will decrease "is the payout stable or increasing" as maturing bonds are replaced at higher yields.Steady buying at lower unit prices (and higher dividend)could help kill the pain of the early buying-what do you think.( 71 year old income investor soon to be starting RIF withdrawals) Thank you yet again..best regards Gary
Q: Can't remember why I own this but it has done nothing in 3 years. Can you suggest an alternative or just get out. Thanks J

Q: Two part question, deduct as many points as you like.
I'm just wondering if anyone at 5I has glanced at the 195 page(!!) short report that Spruce Point put out last week on Stryker. Anything in particular to be concerned about? I own it in my RRSP, and have been slowly adding to my position. It is the only stock that I own in the health care sector.
Also, what would be your top pick, CA or US in this sector, if I wanted to diversify my portfolio?
Thank you for all that you do.
