Q: I am 74, retired with a good pension. 20% of my investment holdings are in laddered GICs, 6% in HFR. Remaining portfolio is in equities. If interest rates are expected to level out over the next year or 2, would you consider moving some fixed income funds into longer term fixed income? Keeping the same ration of fixed to equities.
Thanks very much,
Mike

Q: Would XBB be suitable for a 2-year holding period at this point?
Q: Do you recommend a buy and hold approach or timing the market ? I am currently dollar-cost-averaging once per week into SPY, as I do not have much time to follow stocks. What do you think of this approach for someone of middle age with 20 years until retirement?
Q: Dear 5i
Do you think its important to hold more than one general market S&P 500 ETF in an RRSP account ? If so what Canadian and what US listed ETF`s would you recommend ? Is it important to hold both or just one or the other in an RRSP with regards to withholding taxes ?
Also if you own a Canadian listed ETF such as ZSP which holds individual US stocks , do those stocks held count towards the $100,000 foreign investment limit where a special tax form has to be submitted if above that limit in a nonregistered account ?
Thanks
Bill C

Q: I am interested in your opinion of the eft's listed. With all the market turmoil I am looking for a basket of etf's with a high dividend and solid underlying holdings. I am also wondering if I am missing something in on your site where you evaluate ets's or do need to ask for that as an added service. Thanks for your help. Bob

Q: Took a modest position in this fund at 18 dollars. What are your thoughts for a 20 year hold for retirement income. Being a bit greedy while others are fearful !!!!!!!!!!!!
Q: Small position held. Should this be sold? What will happen to this ETF if some banks go out of business? Could this ever recover? Thank you!
Q: Dear 5i team.
Is there an ETF that has LNR/MG etc in it? Is this a good time to start a position, or should we wait for the outlook to improve?
Thanks for your help.

Q: AS A RETIRED AND CONSERVATIVE INCOME INVESTOR I AM CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF ZWB IN A TFSA AND WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR OPINION DETAILING THE PROS AND CONS OF SUCH AN INVESTMENT AT THIS TIME.
1.I NOTE IT IS DOWN ABOUT 20% THIS PAST YEAR WITH A PRESENT YIELD OF ABOUT 7/12 PERCENT, IS THIS YIELD NET OF TRADING AND MANAGEMENT FEES?
2.DOES THE ETF WRITE COVERED CALLS ON THE ENTIRE PORTFOLIO?
3.GIVEN THE RECENT DECLINE IN THE BANK SHARES AND THE MARKET IN GENERAL AND WITH A 5YEAR TIME HORIZON, WOULD YOU AGREE THERE IS MINIMAL DOWNSIDE RISK, OTHER THAN GENERAL MARKET RISK,AND
4.WHAT TYPE OF MARKET AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS LEADS TO AN INCREASE OR DECREASE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ETF.
THANKS BRIAN

Q: hello 5i:
recently, I asked a question about LIFE; thanks for the quick response. In hindsight, what I should have asked might have been: which covered call ETF, in the health care space, provides the best dividend rate, with the lowest return of capital. As we're dealing in registered accounts, return of capital is not of interest to me.
thanks

Q: I am looking for a dividend paying ETF. Between HHL and NUSI which one do you prefer and why. Do you have other recommendations of ETFs or stocks paying more than 8% dividend?
