Q: I've been looking at AHF as a buy with the recent stock weakness and the dividend now at 6%.
One thing I noticed in the stock quote summary was the large discrepency between the share float vs outstanding shares - 55M vs 89.9M.
Is this due to insider ownership?
I also noticed they have some convertible debt.
Are any of these factors something to be concerned about?

Q: Could you elaborate a bit on the recent news from AHF confirming a term extension for their managed North American Financials Securities Trust. The news seems to have been well received so I presume the uncertainty regarding this event was the cause of recent price pressure. I am not sure I understand the issue - what was going to happen without the extension and is 5 years a meaningful term?

Q: I just re-read Ryan's excellent article highlighting stocks flying under the radar.

I believe that SYZ was one of Peter's picks 2-3 years ago for one of the many stock picking contests he has won. SYZ has gone from under $3 to $12 - and still has zero analyst coverage. I would think that kind of performance puts it into a very special category. Is the lack of coverage incompetence on the part of the analysts and their managers who run the funds, or is there something intrinsic about SYZ that keeps them away?

Thanks to you I am a well rewarded owner of SYZ, but still find the lack of coverage intriguing; but would expect this to change with even more of a share price increase in the future and am looking to add to it.

Would you concur?

Thanks - on many levels for your service.

Q: Hi Peter & team, In the November 17th edition of Member News you say: "Tim Hortons when its merger with Burger King is approved. The new entity will be classified as a US company". I currently have a position in THI in a non-registered account. Because dividends of US companies are treated as interest, I am thinking of selling THI and replace it by another Canadian company in the same sector. Is it a good idea, may be not? Which same sector Canadian company should I buy to replace THI? Thanks, Gervais

Q: Boup Group has proven to be a great investment over the last couple of years. I anticipate that this winter's weather, if we enjoy polar vortex activity, should see some bitter weather and a brisk business for the auto repair industry. However, taking a longer term view, I have to wonder how the technological developments in self-parking, danger alarms, back-up obstruction sgnals etc. will impact the accident rate and therefore the auto repair business.
Would you please comment on these issues and provide your two to five year view of BYD.UN?
With appreciation for your significant support for the retail investor.

Q: Hi guys,

I'm planning to finally dip my toes in the mining sector after the tax sell-off in December that I'm going to hold for 3+ years. Can you suggest a favorite gold miner company please with a good current evaluation, strong balance sheet and if it pays a dividend that's definitely a plus!

Thanks,

Richard

Q: Hello 5i team

Have recently read an article outlining price objectives as stated by a number of brokerage houses (Scotia, PI & Laurentian to name a few) and it appears they have all downgraded their expectations for CVL with 6 research analysts rating it a hold and 4 others a buy.

I have held shares for some time with a small position and am under water a tad. Can you please comment on recent results and what you see moving forward? (as best as possible) And would you take a small loss here or hang tight while looking forward to the next agricultural cycle?

Thanks for all you do

Gord

Q: HLP is about to be delisted and I still own shares. Will it still pay a month end dividend? Should I hang on for further dividends? I am not anxious for the cash.

Q: Question to you and your group. May I have your thoughts on the transports going into the year end and mid 2015. I am looking at TMA-T. The wood and cement segments look strong and stronger going forward. Or do you see a less riskier trade in the IT space. Also looking at Svc-T SANDVINE. The ROE, ROI, ROA looks good.
Thanks Jason

Q: Hello Peter
Tim Hortons currently has a direct share purchase and dividend reinvestment plan which is administered through Computershare. My grandchildren hold shares of THI through this plan. If the THI merger with Burger King is approved my grandchildren will have to elect whether to receive cash for their shares or exchange them for shares in the new company, or a combination of both. It is not currently known whether the new company will continue the dividend reinvestment plan. If they elect to receive cash are you aware of any other Canadian company that allows direct purchase of shares and dividend reinvestment for investors who are not already shareholders? The grandchildren's accounts are not large enough to warrant opening brokerage accounts.
Thank you
David

Q: I understand the Q3 report showed a dip in new car sales which spooked the market a bit. With the sharp decrease in the oil and gas market, I wonder if the Prairies will experience a downturn (or sideways) movement in the economy, or at least give the perception of tougher times. New car sales might be the first to suffer. This could cause some negative news for the next few quarters. On the other hand ACQ might pick up some cheap acquisitions. I love the company but I wonder if it might be best to get out until the dust settles. I would appreciation your advice.
