Q: In your answer to Shirley on Nov. 22 you wrote, "We think investors can position a portfolio more conservatively by raising the allocation to defensive names that emphasize downside protection with good upside potential." Can you give a list of 5 CAD and 5 US stocks that you think would fall under that statement?

Q: Trying to understand analyst changes on SHOP. TD lists analyst 3 changes this week. One sell and 2 holds. On the surface, this could be interpreted as almost 3 sells. What indicators or factors might drive some analysts to come to this conclusion when others, including 5i, are much more upbeat, even bullish.

Q: I'm trying to get my head around EQB . I've read 5i's analysis of the company but the part I don't understand is why would " Joe Sixpack " go to them for a car loan or to renew their mortgage rather than one of the big six ? ...... Not to mention I suspect " Joe Sixpack " has never heard of them . I also don't understand why or what a Credit Union would use them for ? ..... Could 5i explain just who their market is ? And why using EQB would be more attractive than a mainstream financial institution ? Thanks for your terrific service .......

Q: Hi 5i,
Could you elaborate further on Davids question concerning the $300 M private notes issuing and how it affects the share price. I do not really understand how the notes work and would appreciate it if you could provide a short laymans explanation. Not sure if I am asking this question correctly but Does it set a specific share price that these note holders can acquire shares at... ?

Q: In an answer early this month when reviewing BYD's last quarter's results, you said "BYD notes that negative trends are continuing into the Q4, and it is still looking at ways to reduce costs. Certainly these are not great numbers, and the trend here is becoming somewhat concerning."

However, in some recent answers where members were asking for potential stocks to consider, including in the industrial space, BYD has been recommended. Why is it being recommended, given your assessment of the last quarter's results. Many thanks.

Q: Hi, my question is a bit specific but also more general. I'm about 25% down on this stock. When I read, it seems that it's solid enough long-term, but it's not going to rise 25% for quite some time. As a non-resident, I cannot sell for harvesting tax losses, but I wonder if selling at a loss and putting the remaining money into something faster growing would be a good idea? Again, part of the question is about this specific stock, and part is a general query. I'm curious about your answer! Thanks!

Q: Hello,

Could you comment on now that Ontario has partnered with Elon, how does the provincial subsidization of fixed costs for installation of internet, etc. bode for BCE, Telus and other "hardwire" "maybe "fiber optic" providers?

I frequently drive along Hwy 7 and see trees fallen down on the Bell lines - so maintaining this lower margin asset is not a top priority.

How much of a moat is fibre optic vs Starlink?

Elon's satellites have a lot of operating leverage vs copper or fibre optic installation.
