Q: I'm surprised that at 1 PM eastern time, that there have been no questions about BAD on a day the stock is up 4.2%. So here goes: the only news so far is of a dividend of 57 cents per share. No news of 4th quarter results yet. Is this enough to move the stock over 4%? According to Scotia iTrade, earnings are on a downward trend with 4th quarter expected at 29 cents and 1st quarter at 25 cents. I'm not sure why I would buy BAD at this point.

Many of the fundamentals are better than the industry but how important is that if there is still limited capital gains available for now. The stock is trying to break above the 20 day and 50 day MAs and is bouncing off a support established last February. But so far, momentum indicators lack enthusiasm.

Q: In your last report on MTY it was rated as a b+. However that was about 2 years ago.

I won the stock and was in the red after its precipitous fall following its last earning report. However, it has recovered and I am breaking even now.

So its time to revisit this holding. Would you think there is significant price appreciation ahead or is it time to search for greener pastures?

Your recommendation please.

Thanks

Sheldon

Q: Hi guys
I have been a holder of rpi.un for many years once held 10000 shares .
I have trimmed every year to keep the percentage in line and am now down to 2400 shares.
With the run up now over $50 my percentage is higher than I like but I have a reluctance to trim any lower.
Your thoughts this now ten percent also what are the drivers in your opinion that is pushing this stock.
In my tsfa I am almost at zero book value what is CRA position on a negative book value in a tsfa and any other registered account
Kind regards
Stan

Q: Peter: In your growth portfolio you have REAL listed as consumer discretionary. I don’t have a security in this sector. Any suggestions? I have REAL has more of a technology stock similar to LSPD, which I own. I’m also light in health care, own ATE only , thoughts on GUD, and REAL.

Q: Hello Peter & Team,

I noticed you added REAL.CA to the Growth Portfolio in the past month or so at 12.95. It's down slightly since. (ask today is around 12.28) I am considering adding a position to my Portfolio in consideration for how well I have done in following other Growth Portfolio additions you have made. My question is... what your reasoning was behind adding REAL to the 5i mock portfolio and, have you seen any changes to their story since doing so that you feel reflects negatively or positively on your decision?

Thanks for all you do

Q: Hi, here is the email response as received from the CFO of Boyd Group, for clarification about conversion price of units. Hope it's helpful. I now, intend to take it up with my broker.
" At December 31, 2019, the closing price of the Trust Units was $202.00, which could be deemed to represent the fair market value of the BGSI Common Shares on January 1, 2020. This position is not binding on the CRA and we recommend that you consult your tax advisor with respect to the appropriate mechanism of valuing the BGSI Common Shares received pursuant to the Arrangement. Q: Hi, Sounds like many of SYZ small investors like me (and other 5i members) are frustrated with its recent performance (perhaps the only CDN Tech stock with a price decline during 2019 -20%) and questioning the wisdom of continuing to own it. You are right, boring sometimes could be beautiful and we are in no rush to sell our holding, specially with a decent dividend coverage. But, what I wonder is that something strangely appears to have changed with the company/management's approach after recent changes in executive compensation structure. Insider buying has dried up and company stock buyback is non-existent, despite a steady decline in share price. This has also added to the lukewarm market sentiment towards the stock, in my view. What are your thoughts ? Thanks

Q: Hi 5i team,
I've a 2% holding in PHO in a loss position now in my TFSA. I'm thinking of increasing the holding to 4% for a 2-3 years hold. With the current stock price, the general economy, and the semi-conductor business in particular, is this a prudent move or should I wait for a better price or a sign of recovery of the semi conductor business? Thanks.
