Q: Can I have your thoughts on owning this stock: value / expectations/ and DIVIDEND @8.4% sustainable?

Thanks.

Q: With the surge in commodity prices I bought positions in BHP and RIO. My portfolio is well diversified and mainly in value supported by yield. BHP and RIO combined only represent 3.3% of the total portfolio.
What concerns me at this point is the current noise about a potential recession later this year. That could hit metals and minerals fairly hard, particularly if the recession, if it happens, is worldwide. Spending on infrastructure construction as well as the demand for manufactured products could decrease substantially.
My first question is whether you support this scenario of a late 2022 recession. My second, obviously, is whether it's time to trim, sell, or just chill and ride out any downturn in the economy as I generally do. I do like the dividends of both RIO and BHP although they could easily be cut.

Q: XP is being touted by Barron's as the "Schwab of Brazil". They see a historical imbalance between bonds and equities in retail investors portfolios and foresee XP taking advantage of a reversion to the mean (to paraphrase liberally). What is your opinion of XP? ( I recognize that, as a Brazilian equity, it is outside your preferred sweet spot; however, I value your perspective).
Thanks,

Q: Just an additional answer to those who are interested in ADR'S as a way to diversify. Re costs, yes there are some. Eg, in my registered account, on my BP dividend, I get charged a fee on each dividend payout. Equates to 1.5% of the amount paid. I take it this is the local institutions custody and processing fee. Yet to see on UL but will likely be similar

Q: Regarding Ivan's Mar. 28 question about these ADR's: They are all UK domiciled corporations, and the UK has no tax on dividends. Therefore there is no dividend withholding tax, even in a non-registered account. This is one of the reasons I prefer to hold ADR's of UK-headquartered stocks for foreign content - I currently can't make use of the foreign tax credit. (BTI is another one.)

Q: Hi Peter & 5i, The above ADR's trade on US Exchanges among others,
whose dividends are passed on to Canadian investors without the dreadful withholding tax, even in taxable accounts. How would you rate them from good to not so good. Also your input on these and others that you can think of, would be appreciated. As always thanks for the great service. Ivan

Q: Hello,
I bought VEON as a purely speculative trade, with the intention of jumping out quickly on any decent gain. In your estimation is there anything fundamentally compelling about the stock that would suggest it is good for a long term hold? Or should my original plan hold? Thank-you.
