Q: hi,
preface: this question is based on what I am seeing on globe investor data. I can't find a PE ratio on BEP-UN? I see negative EPS. I see a negative ROE?! and Debt/Equity around 5. yikes. can you please elucidate for those of us not fully informed on the financial issues with this stock? it is continually drifting lower, and is now back to levels 2.5 years ago. also, technically where do you think the downside risk level for the price is? cheers, chris

Q: Looking to sell either SYZ or AQN for a tax loss (will still retain SYZ and AQN in registered accounts). SYZ in an unknown, so I am thinking it may be the better one to get sell. AQN will still pay some kind of dividend and is more likely to improve with time. Would appreciate your comments.

Q: Dear 5i,
Thanks for being such a wealth of objective information and happy holidays!
There has been recent insider buying at AQN at the much lower price. Can you please provide your opinion on whether the executives have "real" skin in the game. Some of them seem to have significant options available but do these give insiders a lot of incentive? If the company announced a 50% dividend cut do you think the stock price would go up or down?

Q: Are any of these worth buying now, especially before a potential recession: CU-T, CPX-T, EMA-T, ENB-T, FTS-T, TRP-T and DGRO-A?
Thank you. Ron L

Q: AQN was cut today from RBC top energy picks. Part of the reason is they feel the dividend will be cut because the payout ratio will exceed 100% in 2022 and 2023. In an earlier post you mentioned they have more than enough cash flow to cover their dividend (From that I concluded their payout ratio was well below 100%). Some financial writers have used earning when calculating the ratio, which is inaccurate, Is RBC doing the same? Find it hard to believe they would make that mistake. In your opinion is the ratio (at least for now) below 100%?

Q: Hi 5i,

In your answer to a question on December 1st, where it was about your interview with Kornel Szejber of Build Wealth Canada, you included in the list of stocks to buy and forget, Suncor stock. Was this a typo? Despite all its intrinsic qualities, SU is in such a cyclical and volatile sector, where companies have so little control over their destiny. If it wasn't a mistake, could you elaborate a bit on this choice?

And simply, does the recent decline of the stock make it a good entry point?

Thank you very much.

In considering my transfer from a Cash account to a TFSA for 2023, what 6 stocks would you prefer to have in a TFSA that are held in the income portfolio?

Q: Good Morning;

I own 500 shares of TOU. Because I bought them a couple years ago and trimmed as they rose, my dollar cost average on these shares is zero!! This position accounts for 24.5% of my portfolio, but is such a great holding that I am reluctant to sell any of it!!

I know it is a bad idea to become married to a holding, but with the dividend and special dividends this holding is providing, I am reaping approx 10% return this year!! How do I replace that kind of a return, and what would your advice be? Would you consider CWB as a good option for a new position (I own 225 shares of BNS as my only other bank holding.

Q: I have equal weight positions inT, BCE, TD, BNS, LB and SLF, primarily for income. Have a nice capital gain with SLF and the others are treading water. Planning to sell SLF and redeploy to CM and ENB for the higher income. Your thoughts?

Q: Hi, How significant is Tourmaline's 15 years long term Export Marketing contract with Cheniere Energy, announced last year, to supply 140,000 mmBtu of natural gas, per day through TC Energy pipeline, commencing January, 2023. It appears that TOU will benefit from international pricing for this business. Does the company also indirectly benefit from the tight and lucrative LNG market, where Cheniere, perhaps has a dominant position ? Thank You
