Q: Many companies have become addicted to low interest rates over the last decade. Assuming that interest rates stay where they are for years to come (a rate once considered somewhat "normal"), do you see any problem with any of these blue chip stocks maintaining their dividend ? I'm sure over the course of the next 5 years or so some of these companies will need to renew debt at higher rates.

Q: Hi 5I. I have bought Gibson Energy around $21 a few times and within 6 months it gets up to $24/25 or more and I sell it. I see it as a safe risk/reward play. At sub $22 per share Gibson pays a 7 per cent plus dividend that I think is pretty safe (what is the current pay out ratio?) I am happy to collect a decent dividend and patiently wait for the stock to appreciate. If it languishes I am fine with the divvy. I don't see that much more downside to Gibson. A couple of years ago it did dip under $20 VERY briefly. What is your opinion on Gibson Energy as a safe place to park some money when it trades under $22?

Q: With the recent draw down in the oil price, is now a reasonable time to gain some exposure to the sector and what are your thoughts on the oil price/sector for the remainder of the year? Could you also recommend your top 2 small, mid, and large cap companies for this sector at this time?

Q: Hi 5i,
TRP executive team members seem to have little direct ownership in the stock but a significant amount of out of the money options for compensation. It looks like CEO bought stock on recently but do you think the executive team has much skin in the game? Can I get your high level thoughts on whether this might be a high quality income stock as well as a good entry price?
thanks

Q: Hello 5i,
I have reviewed the questions on these two ETF's and I would like to confirm my thinking. I need to increase both my international and U.S. sectors, one more than the other. As I understand it, if I purchase LIFE, then my international sector would improve over HHL and if I purchase HHL, then my U.S. sector would improve over LIFE. Beyond geographic sector allocation I am largely indifferent albeit with a slight preference for HHL more due to its MER more than anything else.
So, are my assumptions correct and would you have anything further to add in terms of preferring one over the other that I may have overlooked?
Many thanks as always!!!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: Hi
I'm trying to build a concentrated portfolio of Canadian dividend payers. If I want to add a few more names for diversification and safe/good yield, what others would you recommend?
Thanks,
Carlo

Q: Good morning!
As a dividend investor, I am noting that BNS now pays 1.25% higher dividend than EIF. I hold full positions in each. I am considering selling EIF and doubling down on BNS. I see BNS as having - as well as a higher dividend - an upside in the order of 50% when the economy stabilzes and perhaps the Ukraine war is over. I do see growth from EIF, but think that in a 2 to 5 year window EIF might see steady growth with perhaps a maximum of 25% upside, seemingly less than the bank. What do you think of this reasoning, and are there any reasons why this might not be a good idea? This swap would be in registered accounts (50% TFSA and 50% RIF), so there are no immediate tax implications.
Thanks! ... Paul K

Q: I really like the look of this company's juicey dividend, but i am concerned about the trend of all the doctor's (mine included)even though the pandemic for the most part completely over they are still doing a lot of telephone appointments, and the need for office and clinic's i would think can only decline going forward in our digital world.
Maybe i am overthinking this but this, looks like a good entry point, your thoughts would this be a buy for a2-3 year hold,,,Thanks

Q: Non registered account : I sold a majority of stocks in 2022-2023 in order to convert them into a diversified dividend ETFs portfolio.I though intend to only keep" safe stocks for long term".Please could you rank them in this "safety perspective" , a "hold, buy, or sell" comment would be greatly appreciated, considering the fact that in this case, selling a stock would result in "buying an ETF in the same sector" .Many Thanks for your excellent website ,J-Y
