Q: Short term placement for $150,000 US in todays very volatile market 3 - 6 months. Growth only!

Q: BDI reduced their dividend from 8 cents to 5 cents a few months ago. Do you believe the 5 cents dividend is safe. I don't mind holding the stock for the long term if its dividend is safe.

Q: We depend on dividends for 50% of our income and now have full positions in BCE and T in our joint account. I would like your opinion on adding either SJR.B, which I prefer for the higher interest and monthly dividend, or RCI.B. I have several reits and AX, along with others, has dropped like a brick recently. Time to sell? - Ted

Q: Good morning,

I am looking to find the relative exposure of the big 5 banks to the oil and gas sector. I understand that thus far that the effects of the downturn in the oil patch have been somewhat benign, but it would be helpful to know the potential relative effects of a protracted low oil price on the respective banks (ex National and Cdn Western) based on their exposure to the sector. As well, could you please pass along the bank that you feel is most insulated.

Q: I hold Chartwell REIT and Chemtrade Logistics, 3% and 2.7% respectively. Am looking to add to either (or both?) in this market downturn, for income. What is a good weighting for these companies, and which is the most likely to withstand another barrage of sell-offs? (That is, which sector, which company, is likelier to do well in such an environment.) Thanks!

Q: Hello, couple of questions here:
- phk-u : do you think it s a good time to add (to 3% total of my portfolio) and why.
- should i sell rsi or still a long term hold for yield (i am down 15%). Reason : only to raise some cash.
- should i sell vln in this environement while i am even (3.5% allocation). Can you comment on valuation and outlook. I am ok to hold for 5 year if good company long term but thinking about raising some cash. Thank you

Can you explain the difference between the Dividend Reinvestment Component and the Premium Dividend Component of the DRIP.I understand the 5% discount but not the 102% cash payment.

Q: I heard about this one to-day on BNN: auto prop. leased to dealership who are responsible for all prop. servicing costs - long-term leases with 1.3% escalation clause annually, long-term debt. just over 3% not due until 2022. Looks like a great set-up - comments please. Have been adding new dealership properties - one just recently.

I have been comparing the key statistics for EMA and BEP for the years 2011 – 2014, and EMA appears to be the clear winner on paper. I know that BEP has strong backing from BAM, is globally positioned and pays a higher dividend. I hold a full position in BPY.UN and BIP.UN in a reasonably diversified portfolio.
Because of my age income and security of capital are more important than growth.

Are there other considerations that I am not taking into account in deciding which to invest in?

Q: Good morning...I am currently down on majority of dividend paying companies (AD, EP.un,ENB,SIA,TD,CSH,HR.un,IPL,TD,SU,BNS, WSP)from ranging from 10% to 30%...I understand very turbulent market so I am more or less steady...I like the fact I can average about $2500 a month in dividends..while I wait it out..I understand we still may see further decline...however, if I am looking more at the continuation of a dividend stream over the next 12 to 18 months...waiting it out for a little market improvement..what positions would you add to ...top 5..can include new recommendations...ideally above 4%...no tax concerns...also read an article about loonie to .59 by year end...what impact could this have on the overall market on dividend paying stocks? FYI. S&P significantly downgraded VNR's credit rating a few days ago. It has gone down three notches from BBB+ (investment grade) to BB+ ("junk" grade).

Q: Are you confident in EIF's management team to deliver the goods. Is there Aviation side of things intact. If you were to rate this company would a B rating be too high. Thanks as always.

Q: Can you provide an analysis of Cascade (CAS) and whether at the current price it is a buy for 3 year plus hold? Would you recommend larger competitor? I've been watching it hit 52 week highs now for a number of months and rebounded yesterday. Thanks again and again - john
