Q: I find the timing of todays downgrade suspect. Why wouldn't the author wait for the companies quarterly and Q and A in two weeks to form an opinion. Do you think ulterior motives are in play here ?

Q: Dividend 15 Split Corp. Preferred Shares DFN.PR.A has been rock steady for the last ten years or so (except for a plunge in '08-'09), paying 5%, while CPD and ZPR took a plunge starting in 2015. Why the steady performance of DFN.PR.A? How much would you recommend buying it? Thank you.
Q: I know EIF was downgraded today to market perform by Raymond James but the sell-off seems to be a bit overdone. Is this fund managers adjusting their positions and do you think the price will stabilize above the initial drop?

Q: Hello, This question comes from your comments to Joel regarding BDI. I am holding DCI pending the completion of the sale and wonder if BDI would be a decent choice for income and future growth. I am thinking of selling now and making the switch. I would appreciate your thoughts, pro and con as well as alternates I could consider. My portfolio is well diversified so not a consideration for this change.
Thanks for the advice and input.

Q: Just wondering what your comments are on the overall company of DIV and how safe do you think the dividend is? Also on October 4th there was a press release. In the press release it stated
"The Corporation will be holding a Special Meeting of shareholders to consider and, if thought advisable, to pass a special resolution to approve the reduction of the stated capital of the Corporation’s common shares to $200.0 million."
What does that exactly mean and is it positive, negative or neither towards the share price?
Thanks

Q: Can you comment on earnings.
Can you comment on earnings please.
CPX is about 2% of my portfolio. I have owned it for about three years approx and I am up slightly on my investment plus the dividends of course.
Is there positive consensus that they will get sufficient compensation for closing coal plant early?
What is your current rating on the company? I am a buy and hold guy.
Thank you
Stephane

Q: HI Peter,
I have small positions in the three companies: ECI, ALA, and ACQ. I would like to reduce my holdings to two. I am looking for income and capital appreciation. I was thinking of selling Enercare and putting the proceeds to Altagas and leaving ACQ the way it is. Please advise. Thank you.

Q: Would you comment on the advantages and disadvantages of using covered call ETFs like ZWU, ZWB and ZWH to increase your yield? Are these covered call ETFs offered by other institutions other than BMO? In a down market does this type of instrument reduce your risk?
Thanks for your advice!!

Q: Having an Income portfolio including the above companies, I'm unsure of the effects of a potential increase in US rates in say December 2016 when at the same time the Bank of Canada holds rates or even maintains dovish tone signally near term rate cut. Will holding Canadian interest rates steady offset what would otherwise be negative pressure of a US rate increase on Canadian dividend paying stocks? Thanks
Q: Please recommend whether this is a hold or sell and your reasons.
Many thanks, Anne

Q: I am primarily building an income portfolio for retirement in 5-6 years. It will represent about 30-40% of my retirement income. Alongside this I like to invest in some equities for capital gains. My question revolves around the need for any value investments I have owned EFV for about 10 years and really has done nothing. I also own the Chou 100 and 102 funds. My question is whether or not you think to be properly diversified one should have some money in value investments. If so, what ones would you recommend.
Thank You

Q: This stock has had a great run but its latest results, which seemed to be pretty solid, didn't move the stock. Do you think most of the growth is pretty much wrung out of it now and that it should be viewed as largely an income stock? The main reason for my question is that I am currently more interested in a stock that combines both growth and income such as FEZ or BEP.(sector not important)
Appreciate your insight.
