Q: I hold Alaris in my RRSP and am down about 35 percent. I am contemplating selling at least half of my holding and replacing it with one or more of EIF, DOL, and KXS in an attempt to regain some capital value. What is your opinion of this scheme? Joe

Q: Hi 5i: Two questions - please deduct points as appropriate.
(1) I'm looking for a good telecom stock to complete a sector allocation. I hold BCE and Telus in another portfolio, so am considering Rogers. Can you suggest any others, preferably US, or perhaps a US Telco oriented ETF?
(2) As above, for the utility sector of the portfolio; a US utility, or a US utility ETF.
Your advice would be much appreciated. Regards Roland

Q: In the Financial Times on Saturday John Dizard wrote a column more or less saying that BIP was vulnerable to a short attack because of it's corporate structure based in Bermuda. Are you able to comment on the article. It seems that the writer thinks the chances of a short attack are minimal but that there is enough fog to create questions.
Can You give your opinion on his thinking.
I know this is not a straight forward issue to answer but we novice investors learn much when you give your approach. This is much appreciated.

Q: Hi Guys. What are your views on GLOP? I can keep it for at least 5 years.
I like the sector, the geographic areas of operation, and the dividends. What are the risk that you see in it ?

Q: Hi 5i: I want to include a power utility in my portfolio. I already include the pipelines and am considering the attached list. Which of these would you recommend for a longish hold, with a focus on growth, income and of course stability. Are there other interesting names you can suggest? Many thanks.
Q: Can you provide some colour on this Blue Ribbon Income Fund RBN.UN? It doesn't seem to be well known, but pays a very healthy dividend. How can they pay such a high dividend? Are they returning capital at the same time?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Q: I have a position in ENB at $48. If you were selling a covered call on this security, what strike price and expiry date would you select?. The goal would be not to have the position called away. The pending clarification relative to future dividend increase rates is one element that needs to be considered.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: Can you tell me why ex-div, takes an index down a few points
Q: When the stock took a fair hit friday ,was that more related to ex -dividend date or are their other factors ?
Q: Hi Team,
Is KML only holds Canadian pipe line assets, and that means only holds Trans Mountain pipe line, if the expansion blocked that would be very bad for KML ?
Your comment is highly appreciated.
Thanks as always,
Tak

Q: Here is a link to an article in the Globe & Mail that puts a pretty positive spin on Enbridge.

Q: In a 7 figure account that I manage I need to add a telco for about $20K. This account already has close to equal amounts of Rogers, BCE and Telus. The decision is between topping up those three or adding COG. As you know the stock has been on fire this year but why? Can you shed some light?
Thanks
Kim

Q: Hi 5i,
Just a comment. You are fond of pointing out that there are two sides to every trade but I don’t know if many people really think about what that means. Frustrated holders of ENB (how could we be anything else?) might want to take a look at a 5-year chart for TRP. TRP went through a period where it had some issues and not everything was working out perfectly for it. Even though there was never any real concern that its dividend was in danger or that its business enterprise was at significant risk, the market sold it down from $60 to $40. Sound familiar? But a quick glance now will confirm that over the most recent several months TRP has spent most of its time over $60 again and the people who bought it near $40 have made out like bandits. Do you think maybe some of them were buying ENB this week? Thanks!

Q: I hold a large position in this preferred. I have held it in my RIIF since is was issued 11 years ago at $25.
I also hold it in my investment portfolio . 11 % of this 300000$ Portfolio. Purchased for $13. My view is that I should contiue to hold and collect the dividends on the basis that I think interest rates will continue to rise . What is your opinion.

Q: I do not understand the Aimia purchase by DIV and how DIV gets revenue from this. Can you please explain this in some detail. Also if Aimia was to go Bankrupt as the CEO of West Jet said is a possibility, what would that do to DIV. Thanks
