Q: Hi 5i: I want to include a power utility in my portfolio. I already include the pipelines and am considering the attached list. Which of these would you recommend for a longish hold, with a focus on growth, income and of course stability. Are there other interesting names you can suggest? Many thanks.

Q: Hi 5i,
Just a comment. You are fond of pointing out that there are two sides to every trade but I don’t know if many people really think about what that means. Frustrated holders of ENB (how could we be anything else?) might want to take a look at a 5-year chart for TRP. TRP went through a period where it had some issues and not everything was working out perfectly for it. Even though there was never any real concern that its dividend was in danger or that its business enterprise was at significant risk, the market sold it down from $60 to $40. Sound familiar? But a quick glance now will confirm that over the most recent several months TRP has spent most of its time over $60 again and the people who bought it near $40 have made out like bandits. Do you think maybe some of them were buying ENB this week? Thanks!

Q: I hold a large position in this preferred. I have held it in my RIIF since is was issued 11 years ago at $25.
I also hold it in my investment portfolio . 11 % of this 300000$ Portfolio. Purchased for $13. My view is that I should contiue to hold and collect the dividends on the basis that I think interest rates will continue to rise . What is your opinion.

Q: Reviewing my portfolio at this time of year,i have decided to take a more defensive approach for 2018.I have recently purchased a couple of gold stocks(aem & lk).I am unsure if gold still has the downside protection for a portfolio that it used to.
Also with the expected interest rate increases will dividend paying large caps have the desired benefit of portfolio protection?
Do you have any suggestions on some debt free dividend paying companies that will do well in a flat or slightly down market.I don't care if they are small, medium or large cap companies!

Q: In a recent reply to a question about DR, you concluded with a sentence:
'This makes it tough to have a whole lot of confidence on the potential cash flows.'
Could you please expand on this as it sounds like you are 'forecasting' a future drop in earnings / cash flow? Can you share any evidence you have that would support this view?

Q: Hi 5i
I am frustrated with AD and am looking at a replacement in an RSP account. Could you give your opinion and rank order for a long term hold of CGX, ECI and ABT. Do you think each will kept in the PF? Thanks for your help.
Gary
