Q: The stock price continues to slide. For a holding in an Non-Registered Account used for dividend income, in your opinion, is GS facing too strong a headwind and secondly, might it be a candidate for "Tax Loss" selling?

Q: I am a retired, conservative, dividend income investor and have 1/2 to 2/3 positions in each of these securities. I trim-add to my stocks when my asset allocation needs adjusting (recently topped up BCE, BNS). I am considering topping up these 4 stocks, but am fully aware that Tax Loss Selling Season will soon be in full swing. Having said that, all 4 of these stocks have already been beaten up a fair bit.
I know you are NOT a market timer, but does your crystal ball foresee further downside as we work our way through the next 2 months of Tax Loss Selling? Using TCL as an example, you just added 1% to your position. I am sure you must have had quite an internal 5iR discussion about "when" to add that position vs. your 10% cash position at that time and the need to deploy some of it. OR...is it as simple as...this stock has been beaten up so much, it has excellent value now, we know we can't time the bottom, so let's just buy it now?
Thanks...Steve

Q: Hi, I am looking for dividend paying stocks that also have the most upside share price potential in both the short and long term. Could you rate the above, best to last, and if you have any other suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.
I am not overly concerned with sector allocation.
Many thanks.

Q: I have 5% in this stock in mine and my grandkids.Your comments please.
Q: I'd like to put some money in GIC's. Do you have any recommendations? My bank's GIC rates are much lower than the third party rates. There's only a flat fee of $20 to buy them so that doesn't bother me. The best returns seem to be offered by "Manulife Bank" and "Equitable". They are almost double the big banks. I'm leaning towards Manulife. Is there any risk when buying GIC's?
Q: What is the current situation with regards to the short attack on the company earlier in the year. With the recent decline in share price it has a very attractive yield. What are the odds of a dividend cut? What per cent do insiders own? This company has executed well in the past seems to have good management and their airline business is a near monopoly in the north. The erosion of the share price seems to be more in sympathy with markets in general rather than based on company metrics. Appreciate you comments.
Q: If preserving capital was the most important thing ,what would your advice be for an investment of $200000 for a person 70 years . Currently it is in a mutual bond fund with an mer of 1.5% & the investment is losing money.Should it be left where it is or do you have some different suggestions? Thanks as always.
Q: What do you think about the IPO of spinoff of AltaGas Canada? Do you believe it is good opportunity to participate on it?
Thank you
Thank you
Q: Can you please comment on IPL going forward. It has a 7% yield - how does it compare for total returns going forward versus the other pipelines?
Q: In my portfolio I work only on book cost basis. I do not take in consideration any gains unless I "crystalize" them. I am constantly following my cost base behaviour and act without hesitation if on any of my positions, I am down an amount that I consider unhealthy. I make a difference between terminal losses and temporary losses.
Reviewing Altagas for which so far I only have a small loss, I will appreciate your evaluation on the potential for a terminal loss (bankrupcy} and/or temporary losses, considering that I will sell anyway if my losses expand beyond my own comfort threshold.
Thanks
CDJ

Is it a good time to re-enter VET and DOL? Full or Half positions? I have regretfully waved my 10% rule on ALA. What do you see for its future?
Thanks for your unbiased insight which is tremendous foundation of 5i that benefits all members.

Q: A number of analysts have positive comments on the future of this stock. Your feelings on buying it at present level.
Q: I'm considering buying BRE for a TFSA, mainly due to its consistently high Dividend (stable tax-free income). My concern though is that it generally pays out over 3 times what it earns. How can this possibly be sustainable? The way it see it, BRE essentially generates bulk of its revenue from fees (commissions) which can be low risk provided the sales continue growing. Is BRE a good choice for a TFSA at current price?

Thank you
