Q: My wife and I have recently retired and we have enough from CPP, OAS, and a company pension to cover our basic needs. We are bring over about 650K from an investment company that we are not happy with. With that money I would like to earn about 4% in dividend income to pay for vacations, and extras for us. I am thinking of taking 400K and investing it in your income portfolio and 250K in 3 or 4 dividend paying international funds. What are you thoughts? Could you also recommend a few US and International dividend paying ETF's. Thanks for all of your help.

Q: Members keep asking about the dividend safety for this co. It sits in an interest sensitive space so it is down, it is a unique business model as well but am I wrong in thinking that so long as profits are not changing and their subscription base is not changing significantly then the dividend is better than safe and could even increase. I could see stock price being an issue if the company were needing to raise money or make a purchase with stock but a company making the same money now and now maybe more with cost cutting as when it was significantly more expensive is a great value. Is there a metric I am missing that puts company at risk.
Thx for the great service

Q: Hi All at 5i! A quick question about tax loss selling. When would it be ideal to sell a stock at a loss to offset gains, considering that I want to buy the stock back. Would now be good? Or wait until Nov? Dec? Also, I own CBO at a loss at the moment. Considering that interest rates are going up, should I sell it now at a loss( to offset capital gains) and buy it back later? Cheers, Tamara

Q: I own the following in a non-registered account. (I own growth stocks in my TFSA, and US/international equities and Canadian bonds in my RRSP). The goal is to DRIP the following stocks in my non-registered account until I retire and then use the income only to cover some monthly expenses.
CPD; BNS; SLF; FTS; ENB; ALA; BCE; CHP.UN; NWH.UN; VET; NWC; and EIF.
Do you have any concerns with any of these companies long term?

Q: Next year I have to withdraw 5.28% from my RRIF account. Instead of investing the amount in a GIC for 1year, what dividend stocks would you recommend for 1 year that gives me a good dividend, are relatively safe and has some growth. Or is better to go to a GIC?
