- Brookfield Corporation Class A Limited Voting Shares (BN)
- Brookfield Wealth Solutions Ltd. Class A Exchangeable Limited (BNT)
Q: What is the recommendation to own in a registered account? What is the difference between these 2 securities?
5i Research Answer:
BNT is the former Brookfield Reinsurance, with name change to Brookfield Wealth Solutions. It is a completely separate legal company from BN, which is the 'parent' company of the Brookfield Group. But we would note that the CEO of BN owns 36% of BNT, and Partners Value, a split/share type of company, owns 19%. Both pay low dividends, but BNT's dividend is considered a return of capital. Thus it is probably better in a non-registered account, with BN in a registered account.
