Q: Hello 5i team
Last week on BNN, Peter showed a little concern for PRL if Trump sets the maximum interest rate at 10%. What would be the consequences for the company if this actually happened?
Thanks

5i Research Answer:
Trump has talked about setting credit card caps, but we highly doubt this will happen. As a non-prime lender, any rate caps would be detrimental to PRL.
Capping credit card rates would likely face pushback from financial institutions and free-market advocates. Imposing caps could drive vulnerable borrowers to riskier credit options, which regulators would likely want to avoid. Enacting nationwide caps would be extremely tough to pass through Congress, and we think the probability is quite low.
