Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Could you suggest an “all in one ETF”? This means investing in one ETF and that is all. Would you recommend doing this? I’ve seen these being pushed in private pension plans.

Thanks.

5i Research Answer:

VBAL is one of our favourites in this category. It covers the US, Canada and global equities, and also has 40% bond exposure, with corporate and government bonds included. We do not mind the all-in-one strategy. It is an easy and simple and usually cheap (fees here are 0.25%) strategy. One will never outperform an index as the diversity will mute returns, but investors cannot spend an index and many will prefer less volatility and less work. VBAL's five year annualized return is 6.95%. In the horrible year of 2022, it 'only' lost 4.6%.
