- Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP.UN)
- Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN)
- Capital Power Corporation (CPX)
Q: Capital Power has performed extremely well this year, for a utility stock especially. I am wondering how much more room it might have to run. I also hold AQN at a loss large enough to eliminate my gain on selling CPX, so tax considerations are not an issue. I am pondering the wisdom of selling both AQN and CPX and replacing with another utility such as BEP.UN. I am looking at capturing a yield >5%. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
5i Research Answer:
CPX is executing well and benefiting from lower interest rates. BEP.UN we continue to like. AQN, meanwhile, has cut its dividend twice and continues to struggle somewhat. We would be fine selling AQN for BEP but would be reluctant to sell CPX into its stronger momentum.
